Breaking: Former UK Legends to Play Game vs. Dominican Republic in Rupp

uk_logo dominican-republic_flag

This just in from a car somewhere in Ohio: a source tells Matt that Calipari is organizing an exhibition game between former UK players and the Dominican Republic National Team on August 15th in Rupp Arena. Rosters have yet to be finalized, but the following players are expected to participate:

John Wall
DeMarcus Cousins
Eric Bledsoe

Expect more names to pop up in the next few days. Bonus points for those of unable to attend: the game may be televised (most likely on the Big Blue Network). Ticket information is not clear yet, but something should be released later this week.

UPDATE: An earlier version of this post said that a particular team may be honored during the game, but since details are still emerging, we can’t yet say for certain. Also, to be clear, the event will not be put on by the University of Kentucky.

More as we know it…

That’s great! Just wish it was a different day. That’s my first day to take students, I think the principal might frown on me taking it off to go to Lexington.

It’d be pretty cool if Coach Cal was organizing this to help get a paycheck to the players in the lockout. Nothing would say players first more than that. Just another way to get an edge in recruiting

The game is a great idea, invite Coach Hall to coach the legends.

I’d think Knight, Liggens, Enes and Jorts would be logical candidates. I’d hope Patrick and Jodie would be there too. Add another four or five from among Tay, Bogans, Chuck, Nazr, Magloire, Rondo, Morris, Orton or one or two I’m forgetting. Maybe one or two former or non-pros like Woo, Perry, Crawford, Bradley, Daniels, Fitch, Purry Stevenson, Turner, Sheppard, Mercer, Delk, Padgett, DA, SkyWalker, McCarthy, Mills, etc. Maybe even a surprise “Guest Wildcat” (Dirk, LeBron or Rose?). Could be glorious!

Heck, Cal is probably the only guy on the planet that could get Dirk and LaBron on the same court, on the same team at the same time (even if it was just as coaches of the alumni squad maybe make it a charitable event with drawings at halftime. Not sure how thrilled LeBron would be about it, but I think Dirk would be thrilled at being an “Honorary Wildcat.” Heck, he kinda already thinks he is.

Bet it would sellout Rupp. LOL!

15)Great idea!!! Raise some money for some millionaires that may or may not miss a paycheck. I really couldn’t think of any other cause that I’d rather see money go to. He should do a telethon too while he’s at it.

This would also be a great time to invite some recruits that day, to show the love KY has for the players that have left. “Once a CAT, always a CAT”, I think we can have over 10,000 fans on hand for the game. The recruits could talk to past players and find out more about the program and history. Also, Patty looks like you have Big Blue Flu the first day of the school this year, heard it was going around.

18, I think he meant some money for guys like Liggins and Knight. Not Boogie and Wall. I think they are doing quite well already.

UK Legends vs. Dominican team could feature Cousins/Eloy matchup. It’d be more competitive if those two had a Spanish speaking contest
