Bowl Picture Slighty Less Cloudy for SEC

Current SEC Standings (teams in italics are bowl eligible)
1. Auburn (5-0, 8-0)
T2. Alabama (4-1, 7-1)
T2. LSU (4-1, 7-1)

4. South Carolina (3-2, 5-2)
5. Georgia (3-3, 4-4)
T6. Arkansas (2-2, 5-2)
T6. Mississippi State (2-2, 6-2)
8. Florida (2-3, 4-3)
9. Vanderbilt (1-3, 2-5)
10. Ole Miss (1-3, 3-4)
11. Kentucky (1-4, 4-4)
12. Tennessee (0-4, 2-5)

The SEC has 9 bowl tie-ins, assuming that the league only gets 1 BCS bid.  If Auburn wins out, it will be in the BCS title game, but a loss to Alabama in the final game of the regular season would likely eliminate the SEC from title contention, but give them a better chance at 2 BCS bowl bids.

As far as Kentucky, when you see they are in 11th in the conference, things don’t look so good.  But Vandy and Tennessee are long shots to make a bowl.  Vandy will only be favored in maybe 2 games the rest of the season.  Tennessee would have to sweep it’s last 4 games (Memphis, Ole Miss, Vandy, Kentucky) to qualify, which seems unlikely.  So, as long as Kentucky can hunt down 1 conference win of it’s last 3 games, they should be safe with 6 wins.  Now, here is where things stand right now:

BCS Title Game: Auburn
Sugar Bowl: LSU
Capital One Bowl: Alabama
Outback Bowl: South Carolina
Cotton Bowl: Arkansas/Mississippi State
Chick Fil-A Bowl: Georgia
Gator Bowl: Arkansas/Mississippi State
Music City Bowl: Florida
Liberty Bowl: Vandy/Kentucky
Birmingham Bowl: Vandy/Kentucky

Now, I hate to say this, but the only way that Kentucky can elevate itself above the Music Bowl is if they can win their final 3 conference games.  Because it’s hard to believe Florida will continue to slide, and its also unlikely that Arkansas and/or Mississippi State both fall apart at the end of the year.  So, it’s likely going to be another Tennessee bowl game, or maybe Birmingham for the final SEC bowl spot.  Ah, to be a Cats football fan.  Ain’t it lovely?
