To be fair, Knight said the chair was being ‘idiotic.’
And what would a week be, without Bobby Knight making an idiotic comment? A boring one, that’s what. Last night The General stuck up for his Alma Mater – Ohio State – and berated the NCAA for punishing the Buckeyes. Specifically he said “It’s an idiotic rule… I think this NCAA that we’re currently involved with is so far out of touch with the integrity of the sport that it’s just amazing.” Yes, the rule preventing players from getting Cars for zero dollars in exchange for tickets is an idiotic rule. And while the NCAA certainly isn’t consistent – and they may be out of touch with the integrity of the sport (kind of don’t think so,) – at least they aren’t out of touch with reality.
In Bobby Knights world, rules that are broken by programs he has been associated with are idiotic – probably shouldn’t have even been rules in the first place, right? Whereas programs he has a distaste for much be full of kids who don’t go to class and are coached by those that lack integrity. You know, unlike that stand up Jim Tressel character.
But like a senile grandfather, you can’t really do much with Knight except grin and bear it. Or as he might put it – lay back and enjoy it.
And, you know, hope he’s the replacement AD at Tennessee.
