The perpetual pain in ESPN’s ass, Sports By Brooks, has a post this afternoon outlining why Bruce Pearl has not yet been hired as a television analyst, despite it being widely assumed and rumored that he’d land at ESPN after being fired by Tennessee. It has nothing to do with any NCAA rule or anything to do with his agreement with Tennessee to remain in support of the school. In fact, according to Brooks, it has a lot to do with Bob Knight.
According to Brooks’ source at ESPN, Knight despises Pearl and has used his close friendship with programming executive Norby Williamson to create a previously non-existant rule that will not allow Pearl to be hired while there are NCAA issues hanging over his head. It’s a policy that contradicts the network’s hiring of Lou Holtz? So what does this all mean to you?
Probably nothing. Here’s a bear bouncing on a trampoline.
