Khem Birch, one of the top players in the class of 2012, got an interesting email last week. It was from Kentucky assistant coach Orlando Antigua. It asked the 6-foot-9 Canadian to give him a call. “I got very excited when I first read the email,” he said. “This was the first time I heard from Kentucky.” It certainly won’t be the last.
The rising junior is a standout forward who can play both the 3 and 4 in college despite being very skinny. As a defensive specialist, Khem is a standout when it comes to blocking shots and rebounding. He recently transfered from the Winchendon School is Massachussets to Notre Dame Prep with fellow top one hundred star Angel Nunez.
“I wouldn’t say they are my dream school, but they interest me for sure,” he said. Birch is also being looked at by Pittsburgh, Arizona, Kansas, North Carolina and Texas. At one point, Providence was his favorite due to assistant coach Pat Skerry. Skerry departed for Pitt, giving them an advantage. “I don’t have a top three at the moment but Pitt is in there,” he said. “Coach Skerry calls my mom almost every day.” By the end of the summer, could Kentucky be a possibility for Khem’s top three? We will know soon.
