Billy Kopp’s Abbreviated Tuesday News and Views

It is late so we got to make this quick. The picture above is of Billy Kopp of Erlanger, Kentucky at the World Series of Poker, at which he made the final table of a 5,000 NL Hold Em event today. Kopp is a regular online player (doing quite well) and has come in second on a WSOP Circuit event in New Orleans. This is however his first final table at the WSOP in Vegas and to celebrate the occasion, he sported his UK hat for the event. Congrats to Billy, and if you are reading this, I would be more than happy to have you give me a lesson or two when you return.

Couple of things….

Jodie Meeks will workout with the Bulls today in what will likely be his last workout before he has to make a decision as to whether to stay in the Draft. There was some late word on Monday night that he was leaning towards returning, but I have been told that what happens on Tuesday will be of great importance. The Bulls have expressed a lot of interest in Jodie, they have the #26 pick (right where Jodie hopes to go) and could be in need of a shooting guard with Ben Gordon possibly heading out. The Meeks family is supposed to make their decision later this week and the entire drama could end by Friday. But either way, today is a big day in the Meeks saga and the results in Chicago could play a major role in the final decision.

Cal is back from China, with wonton soup and the inspirational messages that we can all wake up to with glee each morning. His return coincides with the amping up of 2010 recruiting and the refocusing of UK’s efforts beyond the Will Barton slot. While there is no word on what he brought back from China (besides pictures of him at Tianenman Square and boxes of bootlegged “Witness” t shirts), it is clear that his trip was useful for building the “Blue China” brand and helping spread that joy that is Ramon Harris to the entire globe.

— Finally, the 2009 Freshman class is scheduled to hit Lexington today to begin their summer classes and to start the UK experience in full. Most of the basketball and football players were scheduled to enroll in the summer and one can expect the UK basketball pickup games to begin in earnest by the end of the week. Be looking for reports from those that have seen the games on here by the weekend.

We will be back tomorrow as I now go to bed with visions of Heather Graham dancing in my head.
