OK, I know this is going to be a tad long but if I can possibly get everyone’s opinion, including yours Matt on what I am proposing.
The pro style offense that we are currently running did work against UL and will work against Kent St. and such but come SEC play we need to change. UK needs a gimmick. Here is my proposition….

The L’Ville game showed me we do have some great athletes at skill positions in WR and RB that are very fast.

If you give me the following Players:

    QB: Jalen Whitlow

RB: Coshik Williams, Josh Clemmons, Ray Sanders, DyShawn Mobley, Johnathon George

WR: Aaron Boyd, LaRod King (both 6’4)…. McCaskil, Demarco Robinson, Demarcus Sweat and Daryl Collins

I don’t play a pro style offense. I play the spread option. Every single one of those players has near a 4.5/4.7-40 time. You have size and speed at WR and a lot of speed at RB. These SEC teams are going to be extremely aggressive on defense… (SC, UF, UA, UGA, LSU, Bama, Auburn, Tenn) you have to find a way to negate that and penalize them for being overly aggressive. The spread option does that. It also simplifies QB play. Instead of a QB dropping back and reading coverage, he simply focuses on 1 position, If they come up the field, QB runs ball, if he stays back and drops, hand the ball off. You spread the field and get your athletes in space and put them in a position to just make the 1st guy miss. King and Boyd are too big to be taken down by 1 guy, and the others are fast enough to make 1 move and make a guy miss. This slows the defense’s down. Makes them think, and creates ball control. I’m not saying we will beat Bama and LSU with this, but it would give us a better shot. And keep our defense off the field as much as possible (which in our case is a good thing). It gives the offense the advantage of being able to dictate where the defense lines up through putting guys in motion. It creates confusion and spreads the defense out so if Daryl Collins makes 1 guy miss, he has 10 yds before the next defender can make a play. Look at what Utah and Florida did to Bama with this offense.

The best thing about Coach Cal is that he coaches to his personnel, Joker needs to do the same. With the personnel he has, this offense fits perfect.

#2 I like that but I think the staff has bought into the idea that running the pro style puts players in the pros and between that and the SEC that is what we have to offer. I think maybe just using the spread like we used the WildCobb would be interesting. That being said if we can’t play defense it doesn’t really matter.

Look I wouldn’t look into the Harrison Twins going to Maryland’s Midnight madness, because for 1, they just signed Dez and he will NOT play this year, I can guarantee that and being that they have him, I think that hurt them on getting the Twins, because as good as the twins are, would you start him over a experienced Dez at the 2 spot? I mean even if you do, Dez will get his time which takes away from Aaron. Because Dez IS good enough that he will play quite a bit.

While it is not on the scale of child abuse, Billy’s action is, without doubt, “abuse.” The NCAA made a bold statement with Penn State regarding educating and nurturing players. Billy G is obviously sick and needs help, but also deserves no sympathy from anyone considering how little he gave to players, basically none at all. The only thing that I ever heard when he was at Kentucky was from Derrick Jasper after he left, but most of us had no idea how insane/intense he was until after he was fired and the allegations started pouring out. A lot of that stuff should have came out sooner than it did.

Does Cal and the way he has handled being UK’s Coach (PERFECTLY) affect every coach we go after down the road now? Because if you thought it would be hard to coach at UK before, it’s going to be even harder now, because now the fanbase is going to expect to win it even more now, but not only that get every top recruit every year from this point on. I don’t think it is accurate to say Billy G was scraping the bottom of the barrel. He was a legit national coach of the year contender the previous two years and had turned two programs without UK’s history around almost overnight. After Donovan turned UK down, those who were objective (as opposed to those who thought Ford and Pelphry were the best coaches available) were happy with the hire based on his recent history.

I honestly thought Gillispie was not a good hire. I was caight up in hope that he’d be better than Tubby, but never felt he was a good fit. Kentucky is too high profile of a program to hire the coach from Texas A & M. Gillispie had only 3 stops at his previous coaching jobs, A&M and UTEP before that. That is not enough time to build a program. That is plenty of time to take the former coaches recruits and win with them. Without the craziness, he reminded me of Bruce Weber. Weber came into Illinois after Bill Self and took the Illini to the national championship game in his second year. After, that, he never took them past the second round. Good coach, not a good recruiter. Gillispie, decent coach, not a good recruiter. However, his time at Kentucky, he went crazy and couldn’t even coach anymore. He shoudl never have been hired at UK……EVER!

Not only was the Gillispie era terrible, especially when we lost to Gardner-Weeb, San Diego, VMI, and Houston, but it became bad for me when Meeks went off for 54 essentially playing on his own. I am not saying I was disappointed by Meeks scoring 54 against Tennessee. It was amazing, but that was when I knew Gillispie was gone. He had lost respect and control of the team. Meeks, you can tell in that game, was not listening to Gillipie. The days of peanut butter crackers and Dr. Pepper were over.

So far these stories have been pretty tame. BCG hooked up with Legion’s girlfriend…that is why Alex left UK. He was at Two Keys a few times when i was there. Saw him at Redmon’s. Saw him at McCarthy’s. Every time he was far from sober. During one UF/UK football game at Commonwealth, I saw BCG in the rotunda during the game…he clearly wasn’t busy, just kinda walking around. I said “hello” and tried to shake his hand. He laughed and said he had places to be…never shook my hand.
