And now I’d like to introduce the next coach of the Betty Ford Clinic Basketball Program, B.G. Seriously though, the man has a problem with impulsive behavior, likely due to substance abuse. Hopefully he can get the help he needs.

The man has a personality disorder. I pray for him, but he should not be allowed near college kids ever again. He was not old school..he was mentally ill. I believe we hired him because we knew he would be overwhelmed. We knew he would lose and lose big. I think they wanted Cal all along, but the fanbase would not have been behind his hiring given his negative reputation. I think the brass and the money guys knew we had to sink lower than we had since Sutton and we needed to lose. Then the fanbase would be so desperate after losing to high school teams and the Sister’s of the Poor that we would eagerly overlook Cal’s reputation and would embrace him fully. Keep in mind I am not saying I think Cal has been responsible for the things which happened at UMASS and Memphis. Those incidents had nothing to do with Cal, but were the decisions of two kids. I do hope we have an army of people looking into every possible corner of a kid’s life as we are looking to recruit, because the NCAA and the media loath us and Cal. You put those two things together and they are just salivating at the idea of taking both down.

Not that I would wish this on anyone: Don’t be surprised if & when you see the news headlines Billy Gillispie found dead of apparent suicide. This guy has got mental issues, some serious demons, and he has no idea how to handle them.

I have a feeling that ALL the details about BCG’s tenure at Texas Tech will be coming out shortly. Now that he is no longer a factor, I’m sure the tight lips will loosen a little. Will be a repeat of the UK stories most likely. Sad.

  20. kingrex
    8:13 pm September 20, 2012 Permalink

Also, there was an article, or a video clip which included Billy G as he is headed off the court or at a press conference and says something to the effect of, “I was brought here to lose”. It is a bizarre comment, but I promise I am not making it up. Does anyone remember this or the context? Thanks. I really believe there is no excuse for an institution such as UK to be hiring “up and comers”. That is totally ridiculous. We should have had our pick of the litter from any other institution. I think the only guy who would be untouchable would be Coach K, but other than that we should have been able to get anyone from any level including the NBA. Doc Rivers comes to mind. Why on earth would you go and get a guy who is known to drink, drink and drive, date coeds and be totally unprepared for any sort of public position. We needed someone who could thrive under the lights and be coherent while talking in front of cameras. The tension and anxiety was palpable whenever he sat down in front of the media. Kentucky requires a rock star mentality. We needed a man who could recruit, coach and would actually talk to AAU coaches (I am looking at you Tubby). It is unforgivable that Tubby absolutely refused to have contact with AAU coaches. Today it is a necessity to develop relationships with AAU coaches. It might feel icky to you, but this is Kentucky. He was brilliant to get what he got out of the players he recruited and we always fixed mistakes at half time, but at UK that is simply not enough.

#17 I don’t know it was on your end of the state, but 8 of 10 wanted Cal when we got BCG. Most wanted Billy D then Cal was their next choice just as it was after BCG got shit canned. Still think Billy D screwed UK because I can’t help but to think UK was instamental in getting the kid to Flordia. Awe hell as is well that ends well and Cal was put on this earth to coach UK. NO ONE will ever be the fit at UK like Cal. I know its been said to much Cal just gets it.

    Jimi:

Depends on your definition of “success”, doesn’t it?

Billy’s made a ton of money. He’s also seen his personal life disappear, had a divorce, and it now looks like his health (and more importantly his mental health) is in danger.

There are some serious issues going on with this individual.

If that’s the trade off for earning his money, than you can have it.

If a mod sees this, I made a post that uses some strongish language and is awaiting moderation. I stand by that in reference to Billy G. He’s the worst kind of trash. Like the kind of trash a raccoon would give the finger to instead of eating. He’s that bad.

Here’s what pisses me off about this guy – normally if you are all blue collar hard work mentality, then you are a man of your word and you get a fair wage for a fair day’s work. This punk runs off with the cash after doing a crappy job and leaving early. I know, I know, “it’s a contract”, but damn, be a man and quit without asking for and taking money you didn’t earn.

    27) Those of us who already have all sorts of problems, have worked hard, but didn’t make millions would gladly make the trade.

    29) No one walks away from money they’ve been promised. For instance, Joker certainly won’t do it because no one’s that stupid. Also people in that profession as well as countless others don’t tend to see themselves as quite the failures many others do.

    Billy, I love you
    But you’re bringing me down

    Billy, I love you
    But you’re bringing me down

    You were suppose to restore
But your fell on the floor

    Billy, I love you
    But you’re bringing me down

    Billy, you’re gone now
    Then why must we stare

    You keep spiraling downward
    But why should we care

You drank your way outta Lex
    Then what’d you do next
    Made some injured kids run
    Now you’ve run outta time

    Billy you’re awful
    Please just stay in bed

Whether its stress or the booze
The Red Raiders want you dead

    I still can’t believe
You really once coached our Cats

    We were so lost then
    But we’re alright now

    Billy, I love you
    But what will you do

    Maybe hit on some co-eds
    Maybe toss back a few

    Like a wannabe Knight
    You bark and you bite

    Billy, I love you
    But what will you do

    Billy, I love you
    But you’re bringing me down

    Billy, I love you
    But you’re bringing me down

You don’t break, you don’t bend
My God, when does practice end?

    You’re still the one coach
Whom I would happily quit on

And oh…the doc said my leg is broke
But you still make me run the steps
Hey, why is that radio guy in our lay-up line?

    Maybe we’re right
    And maybe your nuts
    Maybe we’re right
    And maybe you’re done

    Maybe you’re done
    Maybe we’re right
    And just maybe you’re drunk

    And Oh…
Maybe you just wanted to win
But how you did was a sin
    And you’ll never coach again

    But maybe you’re stressed
    And maybe it’s sad
    And just maybe it’s time

    Maybe you’re done
    And maybe we’re right
And if so, what the hell happened?

Surprise. Surprise. (Gomer Pyle voice). Like no one saw this coming. Bully has been leading up to this for the past 2 weeks. He played the “medical issues” card so that a) he gets to resign instead of being fired, b)once again he does not have to face the mistreatment accusations and c) he continues to get paid for the remainder of this contract year. What a coward.
