I guess they don’t really care who their coach is? What a joke of a head coach? Hopefully, for their sake, he’s gotten a handle on his alcoholism.

SPOILER: Billy Clyde Gillispie was found on the corner of 14th and main, with an underaged female, and was highly intoxicated, after enjoying his first win as Texas Tech head coach. It is undetermined what repercussions Gillispie will face.

He’s really really really really really happy. He also feels that they can be really really really really really good.

The Athletic Director at Texas Tech must be related to the Tennessee Athletic Director.

You fire Mike Leach for placing a kid with a concussion in a storage shed sheltered from the sunlight, yet you hire Gillispie who locked a player in a Men’s room bathroom stall?

    It all makes perfect sense.

#11 I don’t think the “once a Cat, always a Cat” applies to this guy. I think the majority in & around Big Blue Nation have happily wiped all memories of the Gillispie era away. With that said, I hope he has learned from his mistakes and doesn’t bring the same approach to the Texas Tech kids.

I believe Gillipie will do very well there. G’s system couldn’t work at a place like UK or any other premier school because the fans are always in the players ears telling them how great they are. When you get better talent, you get guys with a full entourage. The “scared straight” tactics just don’t work at a place with the kind of fans we have, and players that have been “special” since 6th grade. But really guys….think coach Rupp won because he was a sensitive sweetie that brought group hugs, an acoustic guitar and a 200lb bag of granola with him to practice? And are we so soft that the thought of a coach making a player get off a bus or wait in a bathroom stall is abusive….really? Geez, I had football coaches that would be considered criminally insane using those standards. Maybe I’m holding back all those years of repressed abuse that I suffered at the hands of those big meanies. Harrelson is a 6’11 monster. Just don’t see the guy ever qualifying for a “bullying”. Coach Cal has the nice guy approach and it works for him. Cruel has a long history of working, and way too many of Gillispie’s peers speak highly of his knowledge and fire for the game. Gillispie will make cruel work in Texas where basketball is considered to be a recreational activity for only the most flaming of gay men. In Texas, if there’s no blood, it’s for sissy wussy momma’s boys that still wet the bed. In Texas, the players won’t get out of his practice and have people asking for autographs. Billy is home, and I’m happy for the guy. Look for Billy to have Texas Tech in a good place in a short time.

    54) And Liggins would’ve left if he stayed, Miller might have, and Patterson probably wouldn’t have made the NCAA tourney last year.

Though BCG brought in those players, he also recruited like the store was burning and he needed to fill his cart and get out quick.

    70) To be fair, he had his first DUI before he came here, remember?

Good luck to everyone in life, but I’ve yet to make a mistake that could’ve killed someone, and I get pretty tired of people hand waving away those kinds of mistakes. Just as I get tired of people letting college kids off the hook for crimes and such because “they’re just kids.” They’re just kids because you treat them like kids. An 18 year old is a man.

After all the crap he had to put up with in KY, especially on this site which hasn’t stopped bashing him since he left, I’m glad Clyde can go where there isn’t so much ill-will and animosity aimed at him. I guess him working harder than any coach I’ve ever seen and being named SEC coach of the year in his first year at KY wasn’t enough to earn any respect from KSR or many of the ky ‘fans’.

In the meantime, congratulations to Tubby Smith who in his 4th year at Minnesota finished in 10th place in the Big 10 and lost in the first game of the B10 tourney by 10 pts to Northwestern. Now there’s a great coach by gum!! That’s someone that KSR can praise to no end. He truly deserves KSR’s unconditional praise for all his hard work he did here and leaving Clyde in such a great situation.
