Today is the day that all the sites that have preseason magazines (ours is scheduled to be released in 2012) are allowed to give tidbits of their interviews with Coach Gillispie. If you are a paid subscriber to The Cats Pause or Kentucky Sports Report, then you can read those interviews here and here. The interviews are revolutionary as Billy Clyde is so measured in what he says that he rarely gives thoughts that are behind the scenes. However Matt May and Larry Vaught, two of the best who cover the team, did get some good information. I encourage those of you that are members to check out each of the interviews. As for the rest of us, just a couple of news tidbits emerge.
— In both interviews, Gillispie spoke highly of Michael Porter, saying that he believes the light has turned on for the kid and that he expects a good performance for him this year. In the interview with May, Gillispie made clear that he believes Porter can compete for the starting PG role. Very interesting to say the least.
— One can see from the interviews that Gillispie is still down on AJ Stewart. While he praised his athleticism, he spoke about how he needed to mature a great deal….I always feel that Gillispie isnt enamored with AJ and it comes across in his comments.
— Gillispie acknowleged that scoring will be an issue with this bunch. When asked about the primary scorers besides Meeks and Patterson, he mentioned that Darius Miller could be one off the bench. More creedence to the view that Harris is the Day One starter.
— When talking about the most improved player on the team, Clyde mentions Perry Stevenson. I consider that very good news, as he has not shown a lot in the early games that I have seen.
While you are getting ready for the season, you can listen to Jerry Tipton talk to Clyde, a joy that I think all will enjoy.
