Bill Simmons tosses out the ultimate NBA trade suggestion

Bill Simmons asked his Twitter followers about a potential trade that would send DeMarcus Cousins to Washington to team up with John Wall. Simmons seems to think Cousins is on the move this summer and he wonders if the Kings and Wizards would have any interest in swapping Cousins and the third overall pick.

Keep in mind, this is just Simmons throwing out fake trade scenarios to get everyone’s NBA GM wheels turning this offseason. But this one is too good to simply brush off as internet fodder without raising a discussion.

So, how about it? Boogie to Washington for the third overall pick?

Simmons’s tweet says Matt approves.

Like the trade but Cousins is worth more than a 3rd pick…He is the best young center in the league

Agree with #1. Wizards don’t really have many good trade assets to sweeten the deal, aside from Wall and Beal. And adding next year’s first would be foolish – just in case.

I wouldn’t trade the first pick in this draft for Cousins.

Love the idea. But Cousins (talent-wise) is waaay better than a 3rd pick. On the court, he has excelled.

Oh, then maybe New Orleans could trade Davis to Washington for a sack of pig-iron! And Boston sends over Rondo for two Kart Kountry coupons! Wheeeee!

Cousins has had his problems with the Kings. A third pick trade may get it done. Keep in mind where Boogie went. Now the Wizards roster would look pretty good with Wall, Beal, and Boogie. That is three guys proving they can get it done in the league. That’s a guaranteed 50PPG production from those three players. If the Wizards are smart they will be looking to do something like this. They are truly a couple of guys away from being a playoff team (not necessarily a contender).

Even with 3rd pick and future pick in the draft…Washington would come out on top.

Adding Cousins to Wall instantly gives them star power at two key positions. Not to mention the chemistry + the fact that you wouldn’t have to worry about Cousins/Wall getting along.

In fact I would go after Cousins and Patterson even if I had to give up my 3rd pick this year and next years 1st round pick. I would also throw in 2 players to go with it. Probably send over Okafer or Nene and Booker or Martin.

The Wizards would be in the playoffs next season with that Roster.

I agree with #1 but would love to see this trade. As a BBN fan living near DC, I would love to see Wall and Boogie playing together for the local franchise. God knows Wall needs all the help he can get!

Look at the draft eligible players. Who in the WORLD is available at the 3rd pick that will match Cousins production. (and I am not a Cousins fan)

7: He’s worth more than a third pick in this year’s draft. Boogie was drafted 5th in 2010: a very topheavy class: Paul George went tenth and he’s already been elected to an All-Star game. A third pick this year not only has the inherent risk of “What if the guy doesn’t pan out?”, but also the third pick this year is, at best, Anthony Bennett. Boogie > Bennett and the Wizards don’t have enough to trade to the Kings to sweeten the deal.

I wouldn’t trade DeMarcus Cousins for any pick in this draft. The talent Cousins displays shits on anybody in this draft. This is historically one of the weaker draft classes and the Kings would be worse off than they are now. It would seem more logical if this discussion was being talked about for next years draft. Which will be stacked and considered one of the best in a long time and you could actually match some of the talent in the draft with that of Cousins. Now I know Cousins has had his difficulties, but for the Kings to get rid of him for someone who would possibly be only a role player is just plain idiotic!

Could they trade both picks for him? 1st and 2nd round?

if you’re looking for a big man at the third pick (we can assume Nerlens will be gone by then) that leaves Anthony Bennett, Alex Len and Cody Zeller (and you could argue that Zeller and Bennett are barely big enough to play PF). Cousins has had his share of issues over the years, but he’s twice the player any of those guys are.

Trade 3rd pick, second round, 2015 or 16 1st round pick, and one player. Makes the deal more even, especially since the Kings do want to trade him because he hates them and wants out of Sacramento.

From a pure talent standpoint he is arguably the most talented center in the NBA. Allowing him to go to Washington to be with his old teammate would be great for him, I think, but not necessarily for Sacramento. If Cousins was able to find the right situation he could really become a building block for a championship caliber team, and that is why it is hard to let go of him, especially to a team that might hold the best chance to be that situation for him.

If there is anyone on the court that can help Boogie diffuse in certain situations it is John Wall. I think it would be a good move for Boogie professionally.

It would take Beal + the 3rd to get Cousins. And even that is iffy.
