Big Blue Madness: Nashville edition

On Friday night in Lexington, 24,000 fortunate UK fans gathered in Rupp Arena to celebrate the beginning of the college basketball season for our 2012 National Champions. By now you’ve seen all the pictures and all the videos from that event time and time again.

What you haven’t seen evidence of was the Madness happening in enemy territory. In Nashville, around 50 or 60 of those not fortunate enough to make it to Rupp congregated in The Green Room at Tin Roof Nashville to ring in the new year on the hardwood in the heart of Vandy country.  Myself and Tyler Thompson were in attendance and I took some photos and enjoyed getting to know some of those in attendance.

As is to be expected with UK basketball fans, the crowd was very focused on the action on the TV.  The biggest reactions were for any dance that happened, be it Matthew Mitchell or the players. Thanks to Tin Roof and especially Erin Creighton for hosting the party. I hope to see everyone who was there again for UK games in the future. It was a good place to watch and we were treated very well.  The excitement of something athletically positive happening for UK was a welcomed sight.

(Check out the pictures after the jump)

The calm before the Madness.

The crowd has arrived.

These ladies LOVE the Cats

My man on the right came prepared. UK shirt and his 3 goggles.

Apparently the young lady on the left was distracted by my boots.

Me and some Big Blue Gentlemen

I thought they all knew each other. They didn’t. Kentucky basketball makes friends of us all.

Matt, Tyler, Me, Autumn, and Rachel anxiously awaiting Coach Mitchell’s introduction

See you all back the Roof soon. Go Cats.

John, I was first team All-State. I can put the ball anywhere I want to. I'll make it rain out here.

    15. First of all, just because someone doesn’t approve of Obama doesn’t make them a racist IMO. That being said, the fact that he brought up a political argument, when it was in no way necessary, leads me to believe that he threw that in there because of the racial similarities between Obama and joker. I do not support Joker, just want to put that out there, and my political affiliation has no business on a Kentucky sports website. The only thing that Joker and Obama have in common is race, and there is no other logical explanation as to why he would have to voice disproval of both of them in the same setting.

when did we start hanging banners for Runner-Up and Final 4 finishes?? I thought we only hung Championship banners at UK?? It’s been a long time since I’ve been in Rupp as I can never get ticks. Has this always been the case?

    Excited for bball to start!

Ashland, how about the logic that both are high profile people
(at least in KY) and both MIGHT be out of a job shortly. What is racist about that? And you are right, your political affiliation nor mine belong on this site.

Ashland–guys like u are so bad for the race dialogue. Finding racism when it is not there. You are a horrible human being.

21/22- I have no problem with the dude that posted that, I don’t know him. All I am saying is if you’re going to say something like that own up to it. See his name? “Sources close to the program” what exactly does that have to do with the presidential race? Nothing. Who cares really? I called him out on something he said that was ignorant, point blank period (C.B.). As far as me being a horrible person, that’s cool man, but you don’t know me.

Ashland, you must be the closet racist. I think Joker and Obama both need to go, also. Not because they are black because they have not done their job properly. Ashland, what do you think the % of white Kentucky fans is who would want Joker to be fired if he were undefeated and ranked in the top 5? Zero, maybe 1%?
