So Big Baby hits a huge three, and the LSU Tigers prove that they are for real and can overcome the absurdity that it is a John Brady-coached team and make it to the Final 4. Good for them! I root for teams from the SEC and I will always root for the Big Baby. Tyrus Thomas’ athleticism is simply amazing and watching him develop over the course of the year has truly been a treat. We all knew that LSU could be good with the talent they had, but remember, this is a team that lost SEC Freshman of the Year Brandon Bass when he made the foolish decision to leave early for the NBA and lost at home early in the season to Houston. So the development to this point has been impressive.
Which brings me to Brady. While I think it was ultimately a poor decision, Brady tried one of the boldest coaching decisions that I have seen in some time at the end of regulation. With ten seconds to go and Texas only having committed five fouls, Brady assumed, I think correctly, that TExas would be looking to make a quick foul when the Tigers imbounded it. Thus I presume he told Davis to go towards the Texas players and then throw up a shot…..hoping to create potential game-winning foul shots. Of course Texas did not attempt to foul and Davis’ heave ended up being an airball that could have lost the game, but you have to admire the gumption. Brady was attempting to outcoach the Longhorns….and while it didnt work, it was interesting.
Or it could have just been that Big Baby took a terrible shot and Brady didnt even attempt to draw up a decent play. But I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
GO BIG BABY!!!!!
