Biancardi: Don’t worry about Noel

After Draft Express’ Jonathan Givony gave Nerlens Noel his best McKayla Maroney with some not so glowing reviews, ESPN Recruiting Director Paul Biancardi has some soothing words for the Big Blue Nation. In an interview with Larry Vaught, Biancardi says don’t worry, Nerlens is just knocking off the rust:

“It will be different at Kentucky, but I think he will work and get better over time. It may not come as quickly as everybody wants. A lot of what you do during the year is based on what you do during the offseason. I am sure he has been working on his game, but he had to spend some time doing other things. That might make his progress a little slower. But once he gets to practicing at UK and doing weight training, it should all come together pretty quick.

“He has great instincts for what he does, which is block shots and protect the rim. I still think he was a huge get for John Calipari and will make a huge difference in this year’s team.”

Sounds good to me.

I’ll take Cal’s belief in a recruit over Givony’s belief every day of the year. Obviously, Cal knows what he wants and knows what he’s getting. If the guy has limitations, Cal knows them.

Remember, Davis was slow out of the gate last year. A diamond in the rough, but still in the rough. Nerlens deserves the same time to adjust to college, if not more since he reclassified, so don’t be impatient with him.

he was just busy working on his academics. glad he’s eligible. should improve drastically when Cal gets ahold of him… anxious to see WCS now too! he mite be a secret weapon. sounds like he’s way better than even Cal thought

All Noel has to do is block shots and dunk off lobs, this will be a huge problem for opposing teams.
