After his E1T1/Team Stat team lost today, I had the chance to speak for awhile with Austin Rivers, thanks to some high quality tracking by my Hoops Report bud, Brett Blevins. Rivers, Scout.com’s #1 point guard in 2011, reiterated time and again that his commitment to the University of Florida is solid but he will take a few visits. Duke and North Carolina were specifically named. The reason that he gave for taking these visits were respect for his father, NBA coach Doc Rivers, who would like him to take the visits, respect for the universities themselves, and “just in case something was to happen.” He noted things like coaching changes happen often and he just wanted to have a backup plan if something like that were to occur in Florida. He did add that other schools would be involved, but Kentucky will not be one of them, according to Rivers.
That’s all for now. More games to come and I’ll have a full report on Kyrie Irving’s NJ Roadrunners losing effort against the loaded Boo Williams squad later tonight.
