aUKward Fan Photos: Chapter 13

This not having basketball games during the week thing is getting old.  So old that I dusted off my shoes tonight to play a little pick up. I wouldn’t say it went well. But I didn’t get hurt. At my age, that’s the only stat that really matters.

I never thought I’d look forward to a game against Marshall this much. The Kentucky players probably didn’t either. As they have cleared the midway point of this week’s Camp Cal I’m sure they can’t wait to get out there and compete for Mrs. Tyler’s camper of the week on Saturday.

Tonight’s edition of aUKward Fan Photos is a special one. It’s a 3 for 1. It’ll make you feel like you’re perusing the bars of Bourbon Street just like some of you did in March and April.

Our 3 pictures tonight come from Matt Justice.

Matt writes:

“These awkward UK photos were a work in progress throughout my sister and I’s childhood. My mother had a master plan to dress us up in different UK uniforms as we got older. At the time, I had no problem posing for these pictures in exchange for some pretty awesome UK gear. A Ron Mercer jersey, basketball shorts, and Converse shoes were a fair trade for my future dignity. The icing on the cake is that these wonderful pictures are now framed and displayed on the wall at my parents’ house as you walk up the stairs. They are definitely the first topic of discussion after a tour of the house.”

Thanks for the photos, Matt. You can now be embarrassed statewide instead of limiting it to the privacy of your parents’ home. I’ve tried to order these photos into what I think is “youngest to oldest.”

Here we go.

I wish I could have gotten the thoughts of Matt’s sister on these photos. She has to feel cheated that she was stuck as a cheerleader in each photo.

I’m not saying being a Kentucky cheerleader sucks. It doesn’t. Those folks HANG BANNERS. But Matt got to switch sports in each picture. I’m sure his sister might have liked dressing as a rifle team member, a volleyball player, or a basketball player. She could have repped that Bernadette Locke Maddux uni.

Some observations:

1.) These are not photos just thrown together in the house. They went to a studio. These are professional photos. Borderline glamour shots.

2.) Although Matt’s sister was locked into the cheerleading outfit, the placement of the pom poms was strictly her prerogative. By the time the third photo was taken, she decided she needed to go hands free. She sat it on one of the pillars. I don’t know why pillars were necessary for this picture, but they seem to really tie the room together.

3.) The white undershirt in the basketball picture was on it’s last day. If those sleeves were any shorter I’d start calling them Danny Devito.

4.) The baseball jersey is what I like to call “tucked the freak in.” Any further and you wouldn’t be able to read “Kentucky” on the front of it.

5.) Speaking of the baseball picture, the hat has gone out of style and come back in since this photo was taken.

I kind of wish Matt and his sister would have kept these photos up every year until now. It would have been fun to laugh even more at their expense. That’s what we’re all about here at aUKward Fan Photos. If you want to be laughed at, I’ve got an easy solution. Send your picture to me at [email protected] or tweet it to me @AFlenerKSR.

John, I was first team All-State. I can put the ball anywhere I want to. I'll make it rain out here.

#10, It’s not laughing at their expense, it’s just a good natured chuckle at what I think we have all done, at least in Kentucky. It’s only funny because of the familiarity.

#6, Its really not a hard concept… if you don’t like an article, just skip over it. Or start a new sports blog and leave out “awkward fan photos” day. Good grief man shake it off it’s not a big deal. smh

These don’t just border on Glamour Shots, they are glamour shots. And the cheerleader costume kinda freaks me out, cause it never changed. Its like it grew at the same rate she did. I don’t know how old they are now, but I think they should do a reunion pic.

What the photos do not show is the UK logo etched in the back of their heads. I see nothing awkward about these at all.

    GO CATS

What kind of parents would subject their children to this kind of cruelty? Just kidding, great fans and family!
