With conference expansion continuing to be delayed and discussed, a number of potential new teams have been named as joining the SEC. It seems as if every possibility is being considered and with the talk of adding teams like Missouri some division realignment is beginning to be talked about. The latest news, brought to us by the Birmingham News, is that Auburn is open to the idea of moving to the SEC East. Here’s the quote:
“If that’s what it took, if you ever went to 14 (SEC members) and needed to make it work, that wouldn’t be something I would be upset about. I don’t see any real difference. We already play Georgia, a longtime rival.”
Personally it sounds like a win/win to me. Auburn gets to move out of the currently monstrous SEC west, and Kentucky gets to add Auburn to the yearly schedule. Now, I’m not trying to say Auburn is a great team to have to play every year – after all they won the championship last year – but Kentucky has managed to play better against Auburn than would be expected the past couple meetings so it’s not a team I would shy away from. Add Auburn and WVU to the SEC East and the number of ‘winnable’ games goes up by two.
