Attacking the Press

Kentucky has a huge advantage in that we’ve played Louisville earlier in the season and we’re familiar with their press defense. While we struggled against it in December, the team has made an effort to work on beating it in practice. Anthony Davis said that the team has paid special attention to their signature backcourt defense and the guys are confident in their ability to take the Cards. When asked how they’d do that, he said by passing the ball and getting easy dunks and layups in transition.

One player who particularly struggled against Louisville’s pressure in the first game was Darius Miller. The senior had eight of Kentucky’s 20 turnovers in the game to go along with four fouls. While his stat line wasn’t anything to write home about, his defense on Kyle Kuric was phenomenal. If Darius can pair his offense from the past few games with his defense from the first meeting then Kentucky will win this by a wide margin. Kuric said that no one has played him like Darius did all season. Miller denied the corner and the wing and held the Cards’ top scorer to only two points.

Louisville’s defense has got them this far, but they haven’t played a team as skilled offensively or defensively as Kentucky. That’ll be a bigger road block than any press they could throw at us. What it boils down to though is what Coach Cal has been preaching since the start of the tournament. The guys just need to go out, play their game and have fun. Anthony Davis said that Cal has been emphasizing that above all else. If these guys can keep their heads and play loose and easy then we’ll need to cancel any plans we might have for Monday night.

Unless of course your plans are to watch the Cats win a title.

The Cats have kept their cool all year. I don’t know why today should be any different. The Indiana game in the tourney was the most pressure put on us all year. We handled it just fine and they are an outstanding offensive team. That game tells me all I need to know about these Cats.

Yes, we are much better against the press now. But I honestly have a question that is simple but….well, I just don’t think can happen and that is how is Loserville really going to score over 50 points?

    Seriously.

My biggest worry is playing against a team that can play reckless and has nothing to lose. Those teams scare me the most. I’m a die hard just like the most of us here, but I’m also a realist. Growing up through the Patino years and watching that press has given me a respect for it, I don’t know, maybe that’s why I’m nevously anxious……

All i have to say, is I would much rather be us than them…..we beat them at every position, this will not be close, UL cant score enough to stay in the game. Cats similar to Baylor game will be up 16 18 and then win by 12

Practice was slated for 7:30 am and UL thought that was too early so they are going to have their walk through at Tulane today……per Sportscenter this morning

    15. you are crazy, teague eats siva up, siva is really not good at all, in fact, I think the Florida comeback was partly due to siva fouling out, siva is absolutely zero offense and it put the ball in russ smiths hands. Teague will be an NBA starter at point, siva probably wont even play in the nba, too small no shot

News flash Cats fans… when Pitino was at Kentucky HE ACTUALLY LOST SOME GAMES while utilizing his much vaunted press. He took flack at times for not calling it off. The Pitino press works best when he has a good shooting team… which these Cards ARE NOT, just look at their scoring average. Also, it is at it’s most potent when you have exceptional ball handlers, again, which he does not.

We got this. Cats 78 , Cards 65.

Only a handfull of Cards fans went to their BE tourney or the West region. Cats fans were in full attendance at both. Of course Cards fans are going to turn out for the short drive to NOLA. They didn’t expect to be here so they are going to travel.

if I told you we would shoot under 30 % from the field, make 20plus turnovers and Russ Smith will score 30 would you take that?…………apparently we would since even with those numbers last time, UK won by 7 and was up 13 with 30 seconds to go.
