Archie Goodwin waiting until the spring to pick his school

Earlier this spring, Archie Goodwin created a little controversy when he Tweeted out that people were completely misguided (paraphrasing) if people thought he would be the first to commit to Kentucky.  A little chat with our very own Matt Jones today seemed to add a little clarity to it.  Goodwin told Matt that he will not pick a school until the spring.  The five-star shooting guard from Arkansas spent today playing under the watchful eye of John Calipari and remains one of Kentucky’s main targets and one of the three shooting guards (Shabazz Muhammad and Ricky Ledo are the others) that they’re pushing after for the class of 2012.

This seems to indicate Archie believes he is not the #1 target and that either Shabazz of Ledo is UK’s first choice. Sounds like he’s going to wait until the smoke clears and see where he stands. Quite encouraging actually.

I thought Shabazz was a SF? Anyway UK gonna need at least two shooting guards, Cal can put him in two different positions if he chooses the Cats!

I would say Bazz, Ledo then Goodwin is the picking order. I would also say Cal will probably take 2 out of the 3. Want to come to UK you better hurry up and commit. That’s what Wiltjer did.

You have to stay tight with all three, especially if their brand affiliation plays a role in the decision of Shabazz…

    Ledo is $$ like lamb.

#1 is exactly right. UK will get either Bazz or Ledo. Thaty’s nearly a given. Goodwin is waiting to see if Lamb and Gilchrist both leave before he makes his call. That doesn’t mean that he’ll still have a ride though. Cal only waits when Cals wants to.

Confusion has entered the picture for Archie.

I think this means we won’t get him. We’ll sign one of the other two early, making Archie less interested. Then Mike Anderson will put on a full-court press during the season (pun intended). There’s already a lot of pressure down here for Archie to go to Fayetteville, as you can imagine.

So just spotted a black bentley sedan with new jersey plates roll up in front of wildcat lodge…two guys get out, one about 6’7”, athletic, muscular type (driver’s side)…the other older, looked like a father/trainer or something. saw eloy and a few players walk by and chat with them from a distance but couldn’t make out who it was. he headed for the craft center with b-ball gear on and a backpack. thought it resembled gilchrist but surely UK wouldn’t be dumb enough to let him roll around campus in a $200k whip. any ideas on who it might be? maybe a pro baller coming in for summer workouts?

Shabazz is listed as a SF but can play 2. Ledo is listed as a 2 but Im sure can play SF. Goodwin is a SG that can play some PG. I agree with 1 in that Goodwin is waiting on something. I dont buy the Adidas affiliation sending Shabazz to UCLA but I could understand if he wanted to stay on the West Coast. I hear Ledo could still have some academic issues to get straighten out. If Goodwin has an offer and he was sure about the CATS why wouldnt he pull the trigger? I could see Goodwin playing along side either one but I cant see Shabazz and Ledo playing together.

    9) definitely not rondo, too tall and thick.

    9) nope, much to tall and thick for rondo.

Jonathon is most likely a coompletely full of crap troll, making sh** up, but if he really wants an answer as to who it could be besides Michael Gilchrist, the most likely candidate is Chris Douglas Roberts. He’s 6’7″, and he played for the Nets for 2 years.

To me, this says unless cal picks up two of the Muhammed-Ledo-Goodwin trio, which I do not see happening, Goodwin will not be a cat. Surely we will get either Muhammed or ledo before next spring.

I expect most of this year’s top guys to wait until the spring, especially if they are going to UK. The fact is that a lot of players will want to see what is going to happen with the CBA and also if the “mass exodus” that people think will happen actually does happen after this season. It doesn’t make sense to go to UK before you know IMO if starting is something these guys expect.
