Archie Goodwin plays hero

The pictures and videos from Calipari’s pro camps keep pouring in, as do some great stories about the players’ interactions with the campers. This one in particular made me smile. KSR reader Bill McKinney sent in a story about his nine-year-old daughter, Elise, who participated in the camp this week. Elise was on Archie Goodwin’s team, and had the opportunity to play alongside Archie all day.

However, near the end of the day, Elise tripped and banged her knee on the court. Archie saw her fall and immediately scooped her up and carried her to the trainer. Fortunately, it was only a bruised knee and after the staff iced it a while, she was able to get back out on the court. Despite being busy with other campers, Archie made it a point to come check on Elise throughout the rest of the session.

Bill says that “Archie appeared to be having as much if not more fun than any child at the camp and it was obvious the way he took care of my daughter that he truly cared for each one of them. Archie is a very classy young man and a great role model.”

Archie had as much if not more fun than the kids…that’s because he still IS a kid! This was the thing that made his game so maddening and spectacular while he was at UK. Way to step up and help a kid AG!

She’s not homeless so her life has value.

Maybe TJ should be at the camp versus drinking in downtown Portland – may help his character.

Archie is surprising me so much this summer and it’s made me realize how wrong i was for being so harsh I was on someone as young as he is. Making me eat my feet is an understatement. Keep it up!

Thanks for sharing. Archie is going to have a very long and successful career in the NBA and will be a fun Cat to watch. As much as he drove us nuts at times, he also carried the team at times and without him early on it could’ve been an even uglier season.

#5 with enough integrity and humility to admit he was wrong. Respectable display of wisdom. Nice.

This doesn’t change the fact that he wouldn’t listen to the coach and held the team hostage.

@9 . . . moron, kid had to play 3 positions on last year’s team, nobody else could penetrate or would take shots with clock winding down. Sometimes you just have to go on your own. Hey TT . . . love the burrrr and your contributions to the sight. Best writer since our COALiberal MJ ceased writing.

I’m pretty sure there’s something behind the T Jones thing because the dude has always seemed like a great guy. But who really knows? I love Goodwin and his game here at kentucky he just always tried but couldn’t do it alone.

Wish more fans had the class of #5. There was no reason for all the hatred Archie was getting from the fanbase. Sometimes it’s hard to remember there’s a difference between being a bad person and not being coachable. Archie was a good kid while he was here. I will not fault him for struggling how to learn how to get better. The rest of you who continue to diss him need some perspective.

Kudos to #5, #8, #20,…. and Mrs. Tyler T. Just wish some of these clueless fans weren’t so mean to Archie while he was here in a Kentucky uniform. He’s a class act,..and was the second best player on last year’s team after Nerlans. I’d give anything to have Archie back. But he made the right decision, and he continues to make the haters eat they feet.
