Archie Goodwin and MKG took on new roles during fantasy camp

One of the highlights of the John Calipari Basketball Fantasy Experience was watching how seriously all of the volunteers took it. When I wasn’t watching John Lucas argue call after call as head coach of Team Texas, I made a point to be near Archie Goodwin and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in whatever gym Team Missouri was playing in. Kidd-Gilchrist took his role as Paul Bianardi’s assistant coach VERY seriously, when other former Calipari Cats (I won’t say who) were only around as much as they had to be. That’s not a knock on the other guys; these were very long days and they were volunteering their time. However, MKG never wandered off from his team’s practices or games and he was very supportive, encouraging, and vocal towards his campers throughout the entire weekend. He was exactly like you’d expect Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to be — a gym rat.

The same goes for the manager on Team Missouri, Archie Goodwin. All of the current UK players were assigned to a team, but none of them got involved in each game as much as Archie Goodwin. He would quickly run water to the players during timeouts, wipe a wet spot off the floor when a ref pointed to it, or even give a head massage to his assistant coach. I tried to capture as much as I could of Archie in his role as team manager so you could catch a glimpse of his personality and how fun he was during the camp.

There must be an issue with a song you’re using, Drew. Just keep it music-free and it should be fine. Or use those free beats from that site that’s on every mix tape video — you know, the ones where they match a dunk when a beat drops.

For all the knocks on the type of guys Cal brings in… They all seem to be quality character and he has very publicly passed on the ones that arent.

What gets lost in all this is that Brian Long is filling the water cups… great role player. Quality individual. Still 5’6″.

Haha, yeah, I love that it’s not notable that Brian Long is helping as well. Not knocking you, Drew, just saying it’s funny because it’s true.

This has to be asked. Who was the girl in the tan shorts by the water and why don’t we know more about her?
