So glad for Archie. The kid finished out the academic year and left UK in good standing. His dream was to make it to the NBA and he made it in the first round. I’m sure Coach Cal was disappointed in Nerlens dropping in the draft but am sure he is very proud for Archie. Overall very good night for the CATS!!

Umm, ESPN says he went to the Thunder with the 29th pick and the Suns picked 30th. Was there a trade or sloppy reporting?

He deserved less. But a contract still doesn’t mean crap. What is 1.8 million over a lifetime? He needs to earn a contract after that or he can try free agency. Or accounting. I hope he is a flop. Go Cats

  28. williamtitan
    11:09 pm June 27, 2013 Permalink

actually we are averaging 3.25 players selected in the first round in the past four years. wall, bledsoe, orton, cousins, patterson, knight, kanter, jones, davis, teague, kidd-gillchrist, noel, and goodwin. 13/4 = 3.25 😉

  29. Ridge Runner
    11:09 pm June 27, 2013 Permalink

25, yeah it was from a Thunder-Suns trade. In fact…They needed ESPN2 to do a live show on all the trades tonight. It was/is hard to keep up with.

I go to UK and it seems just like yesterday I was seeing Archie in the mornings at the Student Center eating Chick-Fil-A and listening to music. Amidst all the admiration and scrutiny that surrounds this proud program we sometimes forget that these are still just college kids. I know from personal experience that Archie took a lot of heat from fans and fellow students alike. Although a slight amount may have been warranted, one thing that is true is Archie was and will remain a hard worker and fierce competitor on the basketball court. I am so proud of Archie and I am hopeful and praying he will do well in the NBA. Congrats to Nerlens Noel too! Go Cats!

No offense to anyone with down syndrome, but #27 – are you retarded? 1.8 million would mean never having to work a day in your life if you didn’t blow your money and did the right things with it. Why would you hope he is a flop? That’s just juvenile. If you are indeed a Cats fan, I suspect jealousy – “he’s going to get more out of life than my pathetic self so I wish ill will on him”. He had issues and didn’t do the things I expected at UK, but I can’t hope and pray he fails, nor should you. Orten I could understand, as he left the program in bad standing academically, but Archie hasn’t – he’s fulfilled his obligations. While he didn’t meet expectations of most on the court he did meet the ones in the classroom. I wish nothing but the best for him and the rest of the Cats.

So glad to see this. Goodwin received so much hatred from people that claimed to be UK fans all season. He has everything it takes to make it in the NBA and he will.

33, 34 – you all are idiots. Utter idiots. You CANNOT retire in your mid 20’s on $1.8 million. After taxes, that’s FAR closer to 1.0-1.1 million. What do you think homes cost? Marriage? Kids? You think he’s not going live a nicer lifestyle? That money will be gone in less than 10 years even if he lives within his means. The Fed has almost a NEGATIVE interest rate thanks to Obamanomics so sitting in any safe investment won’t even keep up with inflation. The Dow is going to crash over 50% within the next 18 months, and the bond market might be the biggest bubble in the history of the world. Good god, you kids are just indoctrinated morons.

That said, I expect Archie to work hard and get another contract worth more, but if he doesn’t, he WILL have to find another source of income.

So many of you objectify UK players and say they suck and so on and so forth. I’ll never understand it. You have one conversation with players and you’ll completely change your outlook. I went to a UK basketball camp and interacted with players and coaches and it was like hanging out with friends and family.

  53. UKDude

Wow!! Unbelievable amount of bickering!! How much does he pay in taxes? Really? Obamanomics? these kids haev worked their hearts out to get a chance to play at the highest levels and you guys are asking if it enough money to live on or complaining about interest rates. Unbelievable.

I hate Louisville, but let me begin by saying CONGRATS to Giorgi for making your dream a reality.

Now as UK fans, lets just say Congrats Archie!!!

51 – With that kind of cash, no, you’re not going to live in a mansion, you’re not going to be driving a Bentley one day and the Hummer the next. You’re not vacationing in Europe and then going to your winter home in Aspen. You’re not going to visit a half dozen clubs each week and make it rain either. You’re going to live in a very modest house and you’re not going to splurge or be extravagant in your purchases, but you’re going to be comfortable and not worry about the mortgage or bills. This is why I said if he did the right things with it, he’d be fine. It can be done, maybe not likely for him, but it’s possible. If this $$$ was it he would most likely need to work for some income doing something else, but he wouldn’t have to worry about losing his house or eating like most Americans with a helluva lot less do. He’s not married nor does he have any children that I am aware of, so that can’t be included in your equation at this time. If circumstances change, then I’ll allow it. By the way, Jim Cramer wants to know if Miss Cleo gave you the tip that the Dow would crash over 50% in the next 18 months. How could you possibly know this? And just what are we indoctrinated into?

Great to see Archie go in the first round and get guaranteed money. He worked hard this year and although I know both he wanted a different outcome for the season as did we all, he never stopped trying, even when some of his teammates seemed to do just that. Here’s hoping that his abilities catch up with his desire. If that happens, he will have a successful career at the next level! Tonight it was just great to see a dream come true for the kid! Best of luck Archie!

Well, I was certainly wrong about Archie getting drafted. Great night for him. Congratulations. He’ll definitely be an interesting story to watch over the next couple of years.

Phoenix is a strange franchise these days. The owner, Sarver, is generally as hated and despised as any in all of sports for being a cheap SOB. The Suns have arguably the weakest roster in the league and they simply didn’t play their first round pick from last year, Kendall Marshall. They didn’t send him down and they didn’t play him. Very strange indeed.

Archie Goodwin has a shot. That’s more than I thought he’d get. Congratulations again.
