Anthony Davis accepting his AP POY Award

(via Oscar Combs)

Anthony Davis was named AP Player of the Year this morning, making him the first player in UK’s storied history to win the award. Davis received 43 of the 65 votes to beat out Thomas Robinson (20) and Draymond Green (2).

He made sure to thank his teammates when he accepted his prize; it wouldn’t be possible without them. He said, “Thanks to Marquis for throwing me all those lobs. Thanks to the guards for getting beat off the dribble so I can block those shots.” (H/T Kyle Tucker)

Davis joins Kevin Durant as the only two freshmen to ever win Player of the Year honors from the Associated Press.

Go Cats.

when Harrison Barnes was the most sought after basketball player in high school, AD was looking at Cleveland St. as the only school he might go to…fast forward a couple of years and 8 inches later and voila…ADavis is the AP player of the year while Harrison Barnes is viewed as a good, but not great, college ball player…something to be said about coaching perhaps???…and growth spurts

Oh.My.Gawd. My boss’s daughter plays soccer with Jamie Luckey’s daughter. HE IS DOING THE LOUISVILLE GAME. God help us all. All we need is Ted Valentine or Tony Greene to complete the trifecta.

Nice. Good to see some humor injected into the award. I guess he is getting so many he is comfortable with it now, lol.
Hard to believe he is the first UK player to win this award.
You know, I have a feeling he may not be the last with the way Cal is recruiting.

After we win number 8, Davis and Gilchrist should have their jersey’s retired. Davis for sure. I will probably be slammed for this, but don’t you guys think at least Davis is deserving of having his jersey in the rafters?

As Anthony Davis continues to sweep NPOY awards what do you think the 2 idiots that left him off their 1st Team All American ballots are feeling? Not trying to start a conspiracy here but did they do it to get their names in the national news? Surely they didnt really think hes not even in the top 5.

#2 POY = Rupp Award presented by The Commonwealth Club of KentuckY since 1972:
The awards are determined by a select national voting panel consisting of over 80 sportswriters, coaches, and athletic directors representing every major Division I conference and all geographic regions of the country.
