University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Anthony Bennett Tidbit

According to Dave Telep of ESPN, “The way to view his list in my mind is UNLV and Oregon in the first tier.” This would clearly put UK in the next tier, at least in Telep’s mind. The fact that UNLV is in good position with Bennett really comes as no surprise considering that directly following his visit, he eliminated Florida. The fact that Oregon is ahead of Kentucky on the other hand, does come as a bit of a surprise.  For those who have been clamoring for some Anthony Bennett recruiting news, there’s your Derby Day tidbit. Though it may not be the news you wanted to hear.

Ya, and everyone assumed Nerlens was going to G-town. None of these people know any more than me about where these kids are going. Just drawing conclusions and trying to relate shit together like a bunch of crack pot theories. Logic says UK is the best choice. So by rule of logic, I say Bennett is going to UK. Now where are my thousands of twitter followers and media credentials?

Well, to each his own. If UK can’t recruit over Oregon or UNLV then it was never meant to work out.

I am beginning to feel like a Jefferson in the hand would be worth a Bennett in the bush.

Shouldn’t be too difficult to work thru….either AB wants to blend in with team concept and go with a proven winner and enhance his pro stock, or he wants to go to a team where he can be the STUD and roll the dice on post season play.

He is from Canada going to High School in Vagas and he may have developed a degree of comfort living in the Vagas area for himself and family; just doesn’t want to take a chance and move.

I would love to see Kentucky get Bennett, but at this point, let’s take Jefferson, another guard and possibly the kid who decided to leave Virginia Tech and call it a class. I would hate to see Cal miss on both Bennett and Jefferson, considering that they already missed out on Alex Oriaki.

If Bennett goes to UNLV or Oregon it will not be the best decision. Maybe he is afraid to leave his comfort zone, maybe he is happy to play to small crowds and no tv and to play when everybody back east has gone to bed and won’t see him!

No. 7 could be right… Lots of pressure on you if you come to Ky. Coach Cal, as well as the fans demand a 100% always. It takes a mature kid to measure up to those standards.

I hope that he’s wrong. Having said that, the guy isn’t getting paid for guessing where players go with just hunches alone. Talep has contacts in the recruiting world that most of us don’t. What I’d like to see as a story on here would be how these recruiting analyst get their information and include their stats for how often they were correct in a year with their picks. That way, we’d know who was playing guessing games and who is really a true recruiting analyst!

The issue with Bennett is grades. If it were probable he was going to qualify, UF wouldn’t have went in another direction and UK would be turning up the heat. As it stands, UK is taking a “wait and see” approach. There’s a reason he’s not been on an “official’ visit (i.e. paid for by the school) and that’s because he’s required to release his transcripts to said school prior to the visit so they can get a grasp on his academic situation. If he releases his transcript then the NCAA is required to receive a copy and his handlers do not want that as he has quite a bit of work to do and NCAA could flag his transcripts prior to trying to “fix it”. UNLV and Oregon are more possible destinations due to UK not wanting to deal with another Bledsoe situation. His academics are almost as bad as EBs and they don’t have correspondence school route EB had (you can now only use correspondence school to replace ONE core class grade.. EB was able to replace multiple). OU and UNLV are willing to roll the dice and do whatever it takes to get him done. UK isn’t.

Agree with #10. Wish we’d just go ahead and sign Jefferson if we can. Rather have Bennett for the sheer power, but there’s some kind of problem with grades or something else we don’t know about. Pretty tired of the game he’s playing right now. But I trust Coach Cal will know the right thing to do.

Like I’ve said before, NO ONE KNOWS! All of these recruiting insiders also thought he was going to go to Florida and look what happened there. You never know, he could pull a Terrence Jones and pick UNLV then call Cal and tell him he wants to come to UK. We just have to sit back and wait.

The only way telep’s deduction makes any sense is if he knows of some academic deficiency for ab that gives unlv a decided advantage—such as entrance requirements being more laxed at unlv vs. uk. But that would not explain why ab would favor ou vs. uk…….again, unless the PAC 12 has more laxed entrance requirements than uk—-and I’m pretty sure that is not the case.

If Bennett wants to win, he’ll be a part of big blue nation. If he wants to play in the NBA, Kentucky is the only choice here.

UNLV is close to his high school and they have one his Canadian friends. What else?

Don’t get Oregon being there. They have the best academics of the remaining schools and Nike. They didn’t even make the tourney and the pac 10 is terrible. Bennett wants to play basketball at a football school?

  32. John
    8:51 pm May 5, 2012 Permalink

16- if academics are the issue, he wouldn’t be considering OU. They are in the pac 10 and have higher admissions standards than UK. If we could take Bledsoe and Daniel Orton then we can get Bennett in, most likely. If his grades were that terrible, I doubt Cal would still be recruiting him.

Very few schools will allow an official visit unless everything is in order academically and the recruit is on track to graduate. I just found out that Bennett wanted to take a visit this weekend to Florida and was told “no” on Wednesday. Exactly who told him no, I can only assume it was Florida’s admission department. He then cuts Florida from his list on Friday. This is starting to add up, a school isn’t going to pay all the expenses of a recruit to visit if they don’t have reasonable evidence that the student can qualify. We all have heard talk of qualifying issues possibly throwing a monkey wrench into his recruiting but I’m not sure anyone knew how serious his problems were. This is May 5th and this kid hasn’t taken an official visit yet. Doesn’t this throw up a big red flag when you stop and think about that for a moment? Now I’m sure some of you will say I’m lying about this because he cut my team and I’m mad about it. Yeah, I wanted him badly to sign with the Gators but I’m not going to lie about his situation. I just wanted to find out why we went from the team he wanted to join to cutting us off his list.

33- i hope you’re kidding. Florida had the dumbest football team in the country when urban meyer was there. Chris Rainey scored a 6 on the wonderlic. Florida has no academic standards for their athletes. Bennett even said that the main reason why he was interested in Florida was because he wanted to play with Bradley Beal.

#35 You didn’t help them win 8 National Championships the players did it! UCLA has 11 Championships so what! Go Cats!!!

Make fun of me for paying ten bucks a month all you want. I go to TBK for info and here for humor. Both sites have a lot to offer. Sad that some of you feel like you have to take a side a trash people for choosing where to spend their own money. I have spent years on these sites, and Maggard’s info is the best out there. He doesn’t always know the answers, but is up front when he doesn’t. Most of the “wrong on purpose” claims have been made out of ignorance or flat out twisting of his words. Bottom line again, is if you want good info, he is a great source. If you don’t mind waiting a day or two, no need to shell out the dough.

34 Bennett isn’t going to come out and say it was his academic situation for the reason he cut Florida. Also, some schools have different(lower) standards to meet when it comes to football players gaining admission. Example: Notre Dame. Lots of kids want to attend there but don’t meet their minimum requirements. Football is a different animal all together, not a lot of mental giants come out of that sport, generally speaking of course. There are exceptions to almost anything.

  42. Sammydog
    7:24 am May 6, 2012 Permalink

It has nothing to do with a conference’s academic standards. OU and UNLV need him more and are willing to take a chance that he may not qualify. UK and Florida do not need/do not want to deal with an academic mess as other options are available for both schools. It is that simple. This will unfold just like Maggard predicts.

41- no…Florida takes idiots in basketball too. The school is a complete joke when it comes to football and basketball. You really think basketball players are smarter than football players? At Florida, they are all ITT tech caliber students.

42- in the SEC, we have lower standards than the pac 10. If we can’t take him, then ou definitely can’t take him either. If that’s the case, then unlv will be the only option. From what I’ve read, there’s no issue with Bennett’s grades, it’s more about his credit transferring over since he did go to some bogus high school in west virginia and his Canadian credits may not fulfill standard university criteria.
