Anthony Bennett cuts it down to four

Anthony Bennett, the last remaining uncommitted top ten prospect in the 2012 class, has gotten one step closer to making his college decision as earlier today he cut Washington from his list and is now officially down to Kentucky, Florida, Oregon and UNLV. That’s according to a Zags Blog report, which noted that Bennett had a “lengthy sit down” with Billy Donovan on Wednesday and that representatives from Oregon and UNLV were also in to watch him work out. He also spoke with UK assistant Orlando Antigua on Wednesday.

According to Bennett’s AAU coach, he’s not finished cutting schools just yet. Bennett plans to eliminate one more school from his list in the next week before visiting his final three and making a decision after that. I have no information to base this on, but it would seem like Oregon is likely to be on the chopping block. Florida has always been considered one of the favorites for Bennett, Kentucky is clearly a player and UNLV is his hometown team, so the Ducks would seem to have a long way to go in order to make up ground on those three, especially if cutting Washington shows anything about Bennett’s feelings on the Pacific Northwest. Once again, I have no idea, but that would seem like the scenario that makes the most sense.

Bennett hasn’t set a date for his official announcement, but the process is starting to wind down and after he takes his visits it should wrap up pretty quickly. Hopefully it wraps up with him picking the Cats.

This just goes to show how much faith Cal has in Antigua as a recruiter compared to Donovan going for the gusto right now. We don’t know what Cal is doing behind the scenes, but what we are hearing is that maybe Cal is reeling this big fish in slowly by luring him toward the Cats and then swooping in for the final catch at the end.

With Bennett UK is a top 3 team with a good chance for #9. Without Bennett a top 10 team with a chance to make the Final 4.

For those who may have had orders from FanOutfitters not filled, below is an email I rec’d & just passing it along…

[i]Due to the High volume of emails and phone calls we arent able
to get back everyone at this time. There will be a note inside the package stating there is a back order on some of your products. Please allow up to 7-10 business days for us to receive your other item. We understand the frustration, we have experienced the same from our vendors. If this is not acceptable, please let us know and we will gladly cancel your order and issue a full refund[i/].

#3. Sorry to break your fetid bubble, but CBG is now a tea totaller.

But like KSR, there’s no end to bashing Gillispie, like with Corey Nichols article today regarding Orton.

“There’s no need for overt disdain; he was one of us.”

And then he goes on to bash Coach Gillispie, including not giving him credit for Patterson etc etc etc.

Gillispie, in 1 full year of recruiting, recruited 5 players now in the NBA or NBA bound: Patterson, Miller, Liggins, Harrelson, Orton. Galloway is in the NBA developmental league (where Chuck Hayes started out.) Darnell Dodson could make the big leagues, too.

He also had Crawford, Meeks and Bradley playing the best bball of their lives.

Look at that compared to Tubby’s 10 years at U.K.

You, like KSR, need to get your head out of your ash.

I don’t know there is to think about for this kid. If he goes to UK:

#1. He will start and likely get a lot of minutes as a freshman. That is how Cal does it. Talent over experience.
#2. He will be surrounded by other stars which allows every player the opportunity to showcase what they can do.
#3. He will be coached by the Best-of-the-Best. How many coaches can say they have put 16 guys in the NBA in 3 years.
#4. He will play in front of the most electric fans in CB. Rupp sold out with 23K every game. Florida maybe a a good High School crowd of 7 or 8K will show up.
#5. He will play for a National Title contender again.
#6. His games will be on ESPN virtually every night.
#7. After one year at UK, he will be a projected lottery pick. Go anywhere else, who knows, he might end up being there for four years and dropping out of the first round (Did I hear Patrick Young’s name.)
#8. If he goes to Fla, he will have Noel swatting his shots. If he goes to UK he will have Noel passing to him for dunks.

    Easy decision.
