Anthony Bennett cuts Florida, down to UK, UNLV, and Oregon

More Anthony Bennett news! After visiting the UNLV campus today, Bennett shocked everyone who’s been following his recruitment by cutting Florida from his list. Florida was thought by many to be the favorite in the running for the talented 2012 star. Bennett told Evan Daniels of that he will have a final decision in the next two weeks.

I can’t think of a single reason why a kid like AB would pick OREGON or UNLV over the reigning national champion who is expected to compete for another one this year!

No way any one in their right mind would pick those 2 schools over Kentucky. It was my understanding he was narrowing his list to only two. I like our chances….

As I said that I would do, I am here to admit that I was wrong. I will say however, that Bennett lied to Florida’s coaching staff, he lied to Florida’s recruits, and he lied to his AAU coach because he told them all up until this very week that he was committing to Florida. I understand that these kids change their minds all the time but he shouldn’t tell an outright lie if he wasn’t sure of his intentions. Doesn’t show much character in my opinion.

Well this is the most shocking news i’ve seen in some time. It was down to UK and UF, and now UF is cut earlier than Oregon and UNLV. This is nothing but good news for us as decision time comes close. Next two weeks we’ll know. I feel that it’s down to UK and UNLV because UK for the obvious reasons, and UNLV because right after his visit, he comes up with a decision-time-span. Hopefully he goes to UK now that FL is out of the way. Can’t wait another 2 weeks!

Gog8ors….. Wouldnt that mean he committed to Florida if he told everyone that. I find it hard to believe that many people could keep a secret like that in the bag. not accusing you of lying by any means, just sounds like they might have been over confident on AB.

22, He indeed verbally committed to Florida all the way back before Christmas but it was a silent verbal and he had to qualify before making anything official. Some kids have a hard time saying no to people and maybe he was just telling the Florida staff, players, recruits and others what they wanted to hear but this kid was very adamant about his intentions. What else can you go on if a kid is giving you a definite and then blindsides you? I’m not making this stuff up, that is exactly what happened in this recruiting situation with Bennett. Coach Donovan and staff are as shocked over this announcement as anyone. Stuff like this happens in recruiting all the time but rarely when a kid is so insistent on his intentions with a certain staff. This news totally surprises me, I thought the kid was certain of what he wanted and would stand by his word. Guess I was wrong.

Wow. That’s a shocker. Has to be good for our chances, though I expect he’d keep us listed until the end anyway just for the national attention.

    19) Or, you know, he changed his mind. It’s not lying when you change your mind. Also, unless you heard him tell those people, odds are you heard their interpretation of whatever he’d told them.

Also, we here at UK are familiar with people swearing someone’s verbaled, done deal, etc. We have Coach Billy D after all.

    25. Not trying to be rude here, but how could you have any slight idea of what went on in the recruitment of Bennett around Christmas time. If he told all of these recruits, coaches, players, etc like you said he did, the word would get out, I guarantee it. There was no news around any time of a commitment to Florida. In fact, the only news I did hear about a commitment was the day Nerlens commited from Cats Pause that he was close to a commitment to Kentucky. Please find me some source where it says he gave a “silent” verbal to UF. To me, it sounds like you’re making the news seem easier to deal with on your part. You knew you were in trouble on this site when you heard the news so you had to make up some story like you were an “Insider on his recruitment” or something.

Not all that shocking if you know where to get the right info. I would advise you all where to go if you don’t want to be repeatedly “shocked”, but around here you would just mock the source.

gog8ors, you weren’t this analytical before. We all knew your brash comments. You were just trying to rub it in on our site before. Now that he is not going to FL, look at you and your comments! LOL

AB may very well sign up with Oregon or UNLV. But we Cats fans don’t go about bragging about him as being ours on others’ websites until he really commits to us.

25…again, I wasnt saying you were making it up. Just that you were probably passed some bad info. I find it impossible to believe that other recruits could have known about AB making a verbal commitment and not say a word. It would be the greatest kept secret in the history of college bb recruiting. It just doesnt all add up

Folks, you can believe me or not, either way it doesn’t matter. I have given you the straight up truth about Florida’s recruiting situation with Bennett. I said that I would be back here to admit I was wrong if Bennett didn’t choose Florida. Here I am. Didn’t lie about that and I’m not lying about the story I have told you. Bennett is now saying that the reason he eliminated Florida is because he was close to Beal and with Beal going pro, his feelings changed about going to Florida. I can’t say that I believe that to be 100% true based upon all the other things that he said that have turned out false. So there it is, can’t say much more about it than that. I will say that I have a very credible source that is as close to Florida’s recruiting as anyone and he was as shocked about this latest news as well. Coach Donovan didn’t see this coming at all.

well others may want to be nice but I wont, gog8tors you are flat out of your lying BS mind. You dont have any insight, he didnt verbal to Florida so just STFU and bounce your loser arse off our championship site.

jrod, I know you aren’t accusing me of making it up and yes I got fed some bad info but that info was what was told to the Florida staff by Bennett himself. He told the Florida coaches back in November he was committing to Florida and he also told Dillon Graham and Michael Frazier(both Florida commits). Things change in recruiting all the time with kids, it is the nature of the beast but all you have to go on is a kids word and sometimes that doesn’t mean as much as it used to, unfortunately. So good luck with all the remaining schools on Bennett’s list. Time for Florida to move on and see what other options are available for a quality “big”.

Not so fast my friends. I would love to get this kid- he would fill a huge whole in our frontline and give us a threat on the perimeter as well. However, it looks like this kid has no clue what he’s doing. Why would he cut FLA and then give any consideration to those basketball powerhouses UNLV and Oregon? And just what is it that he is going to learn in two weeks that he doesn’t know now?

    47. What? Like the verbal he gave to Florida, or the assurances MKG made that he w/b coming back next year? Don’t believe anything you read or even hear from these kids’ mouths until they actually sign a piece of paper.

Hard to believe any top tier player would pick UNLV or Oregon over KY given Cal’s track record for winning, exposure and getting players an improved draft position. If he picks another school over KY, we didn’t want him anyway. Just shows a lack of brains.

    Reply to #22_

Many of you are using a word that it seems you do not understand, do not believe/care about, or think that when you were there, you somehow had the understanding you have now [does not mean much for some few of you,] and that is the word…”kid”

These are just kids, many are only 16/17 years old. You mentioned that it does not show much “character” if he did in fact commit to FL, only to change his mind. Question: Have you ever changed you mind after deciding to do something? I know you have….does that mean you “lack” character? Probably not. Just means that after reevaluating/thinking, or maybe getting better information, you realized that choice “C” [or whatever] was better for you than choice “A” [the one originally made.]

We need to let these kids be kids. They are being pulled in a million directions regarding the college they play for, [parents, siblings, “friends,” AAU/HS Coaches, college recruiters, and sometimes they will say something just to get folks off their backs. Does not mean they lack character. Give them a break.

If Bennett comes to UK, we will be happy. If he goes some other school, Coach Cal will bring in someone else, and make them as good….and again….we will be happy. If we get the #1 class [some say we already have it] fine, but that does not usually mean a Title the next spring. Did this year, but Coach Cal is the only coach out there that knows how to do that. Check the records….not many #1 recruiting classes make the Final Four, much less lay claim to the title.

I realize that you must have been a “perfect” kid when you were the age of these kids, and had “great” teen character [may not have improved since then, I would guess by the way you criticize the young kids]…but could you possibly cut some slack to those of us that were not “perfect” at that age?

    Thank you.
