And Your 2013 Kentucky Mr. Basketball Is…

Dominique Hawkins! The Madison Central star, Sweet Sixteen MVP, and Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year took home the hardware tonight in Kentucky’s Mr. and Miss Basketball ceremony. Hawkins was dressed in a UK blue vest and tie- a detail that will surely fuel BBN’s speculation regarding his college choice (announcement expected after Hawkins’ spring break next week). Hawkins already has a prime spot in mind for his trophy; he told reporters he plans to put the trophy on top of his TV (hopefully it’s not a flat screen).

On the women’s side, Makayla Epps won the honor of Miss Basketball. A UK Hoops commit and daughter of former UK player Anthony, Epps played for Marion County and will be in Chicago next week as part of the McDonald’s All American festivities- joining the six (hopefully seven, when all is said and done) UK commits on the men’s side. Like Hawkins, Epps’ Miss Basketball 2013 will join a jammed trophy shelf; in the past few weeks, she has also won MVP of the Sweet 16 and Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Kentucky.

Way to go, kids. You’ll look good in blue. Has anyone ever told you that?

Has Mr. And miss basketball from the same year ever both gone to UK before?

Congratulations to both of them! Although I wonder why Willis’ Mr. Kentucky Basketiball stock dropped. I guess because his team lost early in the tourney, and Hawkins had that amazing late surge?

MG, UL looks nasty with the way they are playing now. They have so much talent and depth. Is there any doubt that Pitino a much better coach than Cal?…didn’t realize that he is 10-0 in Sweet 16 games. That is awesome. He captained his ship in one direction and Cal went the other. It still pisses me off how UK imploded this past season. Cal and his “never met a zone D that I like yet” will continue to have his coaching credentials scrutinized. He sure as heck got “outcoached” most of the games this year.

@#4, Mike, sorry to hear you are still pissed off, but it’s better to be pissed off than pissed on, unless you are into that sort of thing, which I believe you are. Tough luck, I wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire. Get over yourself. Congratulations to Dominique and Makayla. Hope to see you both wearing the blue and white next year.

I find it so funny UL fans hang out here while their team is playing to go to elite 8, reason #10000000000 why I hate UL fans, they can’t be sucessful unless they make fun of Kentucky!

Considering the level of competition, The kid isnt a bad ball player……very worthy of being on the practice squad going against the Miami Heat of college basketball everyday….not bad at all

50 yrs ago this yr., waaaaaay back in ’63, marked the first time an African American prepster won the Mr. Basketball award, the late, great Michael Redd from Louisville Seneca, who played w/both George & Wes Unseld during his high school career there…

Redd has been deceased for a few years now…..he also served in the U.S.Marine Corps, & during those years played/starred on military-sponsored basketball teams, that were AAU-sanctioned (i believe?)…..

but this yr marX the Golden Anniv. of his winning the prestigious award, beating-out that year (’63) other star players such as Clem Haskins, Dwight Smith & Wayne Chapman, to name but a few
