Uncle Matt called it right… we did hear something yesterday. Hate to see Joker go… It just didn’t work out, we in UK still like you Joker.

So here we go, many names will be said…

Hopefully we’ll get to talk about basketball today!

    1) Any HC who is going to get a better offer with a more successful program

    2) Any “up and coming” HC or coordinator that has a reasonably good shot at a big time job in the future

So what’s with Joker’s current status for the last two games as ‘to be determined?’ If I were him, I’m not so sure I would want to coach the last two games. Think about getting fired from your average office job. They fire you on Monday and say you can work the rest of the week while your co-workers already know you’ve been fired. What I want for UK Football is Bernhart to take notes from our “Enemy”(UL’s AD) and make the right pick. We as fans DESERVE to have a Good Coach. We need to go into this with an open mind and really make the right decision. He needs to recruit, NOT run the ball up the middle on 3rd and 19, he needs to be a coach that can and WILL get this fanbase back on their feet and rolling because if there IS 1 thing WE HAVE that not even Alabama has, is we have BBN the BIGGEST FANBASE in the NATION, hence the “Nation” in BBN. IT IS TIME. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and i have nothing to do with this decision, I was hoping at the beggining of the season Joker would make it, but he didn’t, so lets look forward and get the right coach in here and move forward. OK, we hire Bobby Petrino, who obviously can ‘get the football part right’, to quote Barnhart. He shows up at the presser, humble as hell. He says all the right things. Think the fan base would be excited? Of course they would. Would he leave after 3 or 4 years? I dunno… he didn’t seem to be in a hurry to leave Arkansas, and since Mitch writes into his contract that if he leaves early, he pays back one year of his salary…. maybe he would be in no hurry to go. Even if he does, we’re in MUCH better shape to hire another coach…..

Whoever Kentucky gets, what I see as a USC football fan is that UK is trying to be a traditional program like USC,Bama,Penn St. They can sell their program with traditional unis, traditional play. Kentucky cant do that.

For Kentucky to be successful they HAVE to become the Oregon of the SEC. Flash and Pizazz. Gimmick Offense, crazy Uniforms and such. The whole atmosphere has to change from this “traditional” to a “visual appealing product.” Oregon doesnt produce bookoos of D-1 prospects but look what they have done. and people that say “uniforms dont matter” are wrong… DeAnthony Thomas, the most explosive player in college football was SET TO GO TO USC. Took a visit to Oregon and said Chip Kelly sold him because he said if you are fast, you will play and when they asked him if there was anything else he said “the fact i be lookin fly in their uni’s every saturday definitely helps too”.

As a fan that has been to every game this season, I am 100% for the Pack Commonwealth movement for the Samford game. However, where were all these supportive fans when we needed them in the middle of the season? Where were they during the stretch where we played USC, MSU and then Georgia? You’re right in that if we want a big name coach we have to have a united front and support our athletes. But why was this not happening earlier? And what happens if this new coach doesn’t have success? Are these “fans” going to hop right of the bandwagon again? Why does Kentucky Basketball have so much success? Because there is such support and passion for it all across the nation. There are things that need to change with the football program, but one of the biggest ones is the fan culture here. When there can be a more positive and supportive attitude consistantly from the BBN, the football culture here will begin to change. And waiting for football SEC championships to start supporting these hard working players is the opposite order to do things. If you call yourself a Kentucky fan, that means you’re for Kentucky – not conditionally for Kentucky. Be a Wildcat and support the players win or lose. Pack Commonwealth on November 17th but don’t let this be a one time thing.

I was critical of Mitch Saturday evening, following his comments that only “real” fans showed up to the game and suggesting that fans who wanted Joker gone had a “personal agenda.” That was ridiculous and a statement that showed how bad his blinders were to the problem. But, were the reactions to the statement what was needed? I, personally, think so…given the sudden change of tune that was coming out of his mouth the next day when he announced the firing.

People had a personal agenda, yes, but not what he was insinuating. The personal agenda was the desire to watch winning football! Nothing more, nothing less!

Now that he’s made the move, it’s time to get behind him and hope that the next hire is a homerun. He made the call to name Joker headcoach before Brooks was gone, and it was a bad move. Time to make a move to off-set that bad call. Here’s to hoping that the program moves back to being competitive and Mitch makes a good hire. As for Joker, I hope he finds success somewhere and finds it soon. I have nothing against Joker as a person, and don’t think that most of BBN has anything against him. He’s a nice guy…he just wasn’t ready to take the reins as head coach. I hope he’s able to move on and find great success because he genuinely is a nice guy.

The biggest question for me is what do UK fans REALLY WANT with the next head coach?? Anyone under 50 would likely use UK as a stepping stool job to their next gig. I don’t necessarily have a problem with that if they come here and win/recruit for 4-5 years, but the reality is that UK is not a destination job. It was for Rich Brooks because he was near retirement. It was for Joker Phillips because he was a UK guy all the way. That said, if you hire someone like Fulmer, Cutcliffe than you are basically hiring (at best case scenario) another Rich Brooks and the hire wouldn’t get the fan base fired up.

So, the question is do you go after a young guy who could do great and would likely revitalize the fanbase, but will ultimately leave UK if they do well, or do you go after a proven guy that is a little bit older that might want to stick around for awhile?

Barnhart should’ve answered questions at a podium yesterday.

Q: At what point in time did you reach this decision?

Q: Will all names be considered as replacements?

Q: Is Bobby Petrino a candidate?

The fans deserve to hear him answer these questions. Let us judge for ourselves if this man is serious about building a winner at UK. Let us not only hear his words, but let us see his body language and facial expressions involved with his answers. Very cowardly way to have handled this yesterday.

I know we hate to blame kids, but how about the horrendous support from the students? We, as fans and adults, are mostly fickle morons…who will travel a long way to support a team. But, what about students who pay $5 to get in and have to walk about 3 football fields to get to the game. That needs to be fixed. To me, that is a bigger insult to the players than adults not coming to game.

Guys, Randall Cobb has a somewhat realistic shot at breaking the all-time NFL all-purpose yards record of 2,696 yards set by Darren Sproles last season. Cobb currently has 1,363 yards and needs to average just over 190 yards per game over the last seven games to get the record in the regular season. He could certainly break it with a couple playoff games. The Packers record was set by Ahman Green with 2,250 yards and Cobb is very likely to get to that record. Cobb is doing it with kickoff and punt returns, receptions, and running the ball out of the backfield. Cobb’s versatility is impressing guys throughout the league. Cardinals DE Vonnie Holliday had this to say about him:

“I don’t know many guys like that,” defensive end Vonnie Holliday said. “For a receiver to go down in the box and run the ball with those pit guys in there … most receivers want to stay away from that kind of action … it’s a different kind of mentality and toughness that he has. He’s a dynamic player and a game-changer. He makes plays downfield. He’s special.”

Everybody just needs to relax. The letter Mitch wrote was very good and was a fine way to present his decision about his friend coaching the football program. Yes, a coaching search will take place, but we have no input in this decision. We can talk and speculate about who we would like, but we have no information as to who might want the job, and who might be offered the job. All we can do is wait on Mitch’s decision and see who we get and live with it.

Matt is an awful host and wants to school callers about subjects he knows nothing about – Football. Anymore the only reason I ever check this site is to stay up to speed on the rumor mill. I find the rumors here and research them further to get facts elsewhere. Once upon a time this website was not this ridiculous.

    to #459 Realistic Thnker:

Get a life. Here is how pathetic your life is. Listnening to a show that you hate and taking the time to write ridiculous comments. Just dont listen. I’m sure Rivals or Cats Pause would love the extra listener. you are probably a person sitting at home cursing to have joker fired then when he is you complain about mitch. I can tell you are a very successful person on a blog a noon sending hate mail. Me on the other hand I am retired and spend my spare time watching my horses race at keeneland. Get a life.

#461 I’m a school teacher & coach so I’m off today. That was my comment saying that I’m done listening to his show. It’s reached a level of stupid that’s unbearable to listen to anymore. And before you try to school somebody you may want to have some facts in hand. You’re just as stupid as Matt is which is probably why you love this so much.

Best option is definitely Kragthorpe. Remember when a large segment of UK fans agreed that he was actually a great coach who just inherited a bunch of uncontrollable thugs at Little Brudder University? Well, obviously with that logic, he would be a great candidate at UK! And now, he even has experience in the mighty SEC!

    # 459, stop listening and stop reading. This is a country where we are free to choose, so you should remove these things from your life that irritate you. God Bless America!

Realistic thinker, I agree with you on this and on most of your posts. KSR cannot be taken seriously. Go to A Sea of Blue for thoughtful and respectful commentary on sports. KSR is for a more juvenile approach where kids like to throw mudballs and poke fingers in each others eyes.

#461 You are arrogant and mean spirited. You know nothing about the life of RealThinker and what he said does not warrant your judgement. Mr. Big Deal retired horse owner has some ego issues or he/she wouldn’t take the time to toot his own horn while belittling others.
