Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

And now for the hard part….

Well the latest AP poll was released today and not to rub salt in an open wound but it looks like things are going to get much worse before they get any better. Kentucky kicks off SEC play next week down in the swamp against number 14 Florida. Unfortunately that is probably going to be one of their easier games. The Cats finished the easiest part of their schedule with a record of 1-2 and are now facing down murders row. Here’s a quick look at UK’s next five opponents:

#14 Florida

For the second week in a row the Gators were on the road for College Gameday and picked up the win. Now the Cats have to start SEC play on the road against a team that is exceeding expectations and could challenge for the East championship as they are now 2-0 in the SEC. It’s hard to see the Cats picking up the win next week after they just lost at home to Western.

#7 South Carolina

Then the Cats come home to face the team that beat them 54-3 last year when our strength was our defense. Last time USC came into Lexington they left with a loss. However, this year’s Gamecock squad is very different than the one we upset. You never say never but its hard to see the Cats finding any way to get it done.

#23 Mississippi State

Of course our permanent rival from the West would be pretty good this year. The Cats just can’t get a break. The Bulldogs are undefeated thus far and have been pretty good on the road in Lexington over the past few years.

Arkansas

Well Arkansas just got completely dismantled by Alabama to the tune of 52-0. The Cats could have a slight chance in this game is Arkansas can’t turn things around. Still the game is on the road and the Razorbacks have the talent of a top-ten team even if they aren’t showing it right now. Its hard to see UK leaving Fayetteville with a win, especially once Wilson returns.

#5 Georgia

If the Cats are 1-7 and hosting one of the best teams in the country how empty is Commonwealth going to be? Nobody wants to see the Cats getting ran off the field at home.

Last night’s loss has the season looking pretty bleak after the positivity from the Kent St. win. After those five games the Cats have four games they may have a chance of winning. It will just be tough with two SEC games on the road. If Phillips is going to save his job these next five weeks are going to require us stealing one perhaps even two. With all five opponents at one point being top-25 teams that is going to be a tough task.

The only way that Phillips saves his job is for the team to beat UF and UT and we know that isn’t happening. Barnhart knows what he needs to do it is just figuring out when and how much it is going to cost.

The AD can only do 1 thing – fire joker (and the sooner the better). If this drags out till the end of the season – there will be no one in the stadium.

Everyone knew after season 1 of the ‘joker experiment’ that he just wasn’t cut out for it.

PETRINO……there is a little coach in Louisville that had a scandal 10x the size of anything Petrino done and no one in the nation (other than uk fans on game day) even cares or remembers it. The uk fans give themselves too much credit thinking anyone in the nation would care about who they hire as a football coach! If Petrino was hired this little town would turn into a major football town with unreal excitement overnight (just look at what cal has done). This school and fans really deserve this

There is ZERO chance Kentucky has a ‘slight chance’ to beat Arkansas on the road. That is an absurd statement. This clown head coach has succeeded in completely tearing down whatever progress Brooks made. And the A.D. is complicit in the destruction.

Sorry but I do care whether we hire a scumbag for a coach. I suspect I am not alone. I realize we now live in a world where character has become meaningless for most but I do not believe we should turn our program over to a proven scumbag…and it isn’t because I care what the rest of the nation thinks about who we hire.

Gator dipshit…you are a rookie at talking smack. We don’t care if your average little football team beats us by 50, we suck and we know it, now move along. We have to get back to firing, hiring and boycotting.

13 you are 100 per cent correct. Petrino has never been in trouble with the NCAA and has taken a team below respectable to championship level IN THE SEC. No one else being mentioned has done that. UK here is your chance to jump start your program.

23 I bet you loved Pitino at UK. Newsflash to 23 do you think he wasn’t doing his dirty deeds at UK? If you don’t think so then get a reality check.

I wonder what it would have been like if we had had KSR message boards around when Bill Curry was coach….. but anyway, what available coach would take the UK job? If, IF, UK wanted Petrino, would he consider it? (And I would kinda feel like UK was selling their soul if they did ever offer him).

26 How exactly would they be selling their soul? The athletic programs are supposed to strive to be successful. Don’t you think that even Petrino thinks he screwed up and would behave better if given another job in the SEC? I believe everyone deserves a second chance and you could place character descriptions into his contract.

I believe the biggest issue with him is that he coached at Louisville and we have this superiority complex about them. Newsflash, they are better at football than us. We hire him and those days are over, period.

Sometimes the only thing left is the fall !! I honestly don’t know why the guy would want to put himself through the rest of the season now that he has no hope of keeping his job. Since Joker played ball at UK, Mitch won’t unfortunately fire Joker before the season is over.

  30. UKBlue

26 We won’t have to worry about hiring Petrino, besides the fact it would never happen, Petrino will get rehired by Arkansas.

30 that would be the biggest mistake in football, by UK’s administration, since not keeping Bryant happy in the 1950’s.

  33. BlueDayNow!
    3:00 pm September 16, 2012 Permalink

28 Petrino has had bunches of second and third and fourth chances … and messed them all up. He’s a very good coach, when he’s not trying to get a better job or having an affair with a staffer and giving her a 50K job. I don’t look for coaches to be saints, but he’s shown too many times that he just doesn’t get it. The right thing to do is really sometimes the right thing to do!

  34. markp
    3:04 pm September 16, 2012 Permalink

33 Name all of these times. Aside from the cheating on wife thing what has he done? Talking to Auburn while at U of L, who wouldn’t do that? He failed at Atlanta and left for Arkansas, who wouldn’t do that. He left U of L for Atlanta, who wouldn’t do that. He’s not warm and fuzzy but he’s not the villian you apologists claim him to be. He’s an oppurtunist as a coach and coming back to the SEC with a chip on his shoulder is a good recipe for us. Wins, fun offensive, and filled stadiums are sure to follow. Wake up!

  35. cabethy
    3:05 pm September 16, 2012 Permalink

28 Maybe he would behave better if given another chance, I would hope so whether it was UK or anywhere else, really. I just remember thinking the way he left the Falcons was pretty lame. If he’s gained some character as a result of his issues, that’s great. But, wow, what a lot of issues. And besides, then I’d lose one of my favorite jokes against UL fans which is that they got a UK castoff as their bkball coach. I’d be willing to lose the joke if it meant some fball Ws, though.

  36. markp
    3:08 pm September 16, 2012 Permalink

35 as much as you may want to say it Pitino wasn’t our castoff, we were his. He likes the Louisville area better. He was annoyed with the Eastern Kentucky crowd and never did hide his feelings for them. Petrino too, is no U of L castoff. We need the best possible coach available to come to us. He’s it and it’s not even close.

We see the issues and were not studing film for days, like the coaches. You wonder why these havent been corrected after 2 games.
1.) The defense isnt attacking, they wait until the offensive player makes their moves, then waits for them to come to them, in the meantime, they get an additional 3 or 4 yards. Even when they linebakers get the read correct and are in position.
2.) Do we ever mix things up on defense? Have we blitzed?
3.) We cant tackle and thats been a 3 year issue. We had Western stopped for a loss several times, but we didnt get the tackle becuase we didnt wrap up
4.) I saw Max Smith yell at both Boyd and (brain freeze) the receiver from E-town for not finishing a route and 1 caused an interception.
5.) The tackles are soooo out of shape that Mr Cobble and Rumph were severally sucking wind early in the game. 6 foot and 330 come on, tell me hes in shape.
6.) Coaching up the players hasnt occured. Since 2009, 80 % of Westerns players have been rated 2 star or lower, by Rivals.
7.) 3 personal fouls are unexcusable……………. who`s fault is this, player control.
8.) Depth on defense……………we have none. We missing 3 players from last year and we drop off as though were starting over………never should happen.

I want Butch Jones from Cincinnati Bearcats . He can recruit OH and MI which would be easier to “bring down players” to the SEC which, in my opinion, is easier than to go South and try “bring players North”. He has an exciting offense. He has won everywhere he has been. His DC is a former GA LB coach for 5 years. The Big East is gonna be obsolete in a few years and now would be the time to strike as the Big East may be stripped of BCS ties sooner than later.

The wagon is here…jump on it with me and send [email protected] your suggestions on such.

Petrino had Arkansas rocking, especially with the new 40 million dollar practice facility being built. He could energize this fan base, and maybe more importantly, the major donors. We have an entire season for this process, so we should be thorough. I think we also need to look at Kirby Smart. If you look at this SEC champions run, all of these BCS champions in our league where top 10 defensive football teams, with the exception of Auburn, which wasn’t no slouch by any means. Let’s be careful not to beg for high flying offense like the Mumme days. The issue is not that we only scored 31 Saturday, the bigger issue is that we gave up 32.

I don’t think there are four teams in the country that this UK team is capable of beating let alone four teams on their schedule.
