Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

And another one!

It only seems fitting to finish the day with another football commitment.  According to Steve Jones of Cats Illustrated, Kentucky got another verbal tonight, this time from kicker/punter Landon Foster.  The Tennessee native also had an offer from Western Kentucky and was receiving interest from Alabama, Miami (Fl.), Missouri and Tennesee.

Is it possible that we stole another emo kicker out of the Volunteer state?

Guys, please dont go with the “was also receiving interest from “insert big time program here””. I understand that we have to start somewhere and we cant out recruit Alabama, but just leave it with we beat out western.

Won’t say much on song choice, but the special teams game just got a bit better if he’s a boomer in game situations. Color me impressed.

UK made a huge mistake not signing Monte Merrick a few years back.

But congrats on signing this kid. He looks like a great one with good potential.

    @ #15

I agree we can’t give a scholarship to a kicker in our own backyard who had interest from some top schools and went to Western. Then we turn around and give a scholarship to an out of state kicker with basically the same credentials

I hope that we did not sign the other kid as a punt returner!!

The kicking game has actually been important to us over the years. Some not do good, but we need to get back to the Tim Masthay type!

#18 Looks like the same thing is happening again this year as well. Arguably the #1 kicker in the nation is in KY and attends Pikeville High School, Burgy-Vanhoose kid. WTF?

#20, ZBV you are talking about, there are always issues besides just being a good kicker. Kid goes to my old school, nice kid, talented as heck, but… It looks like the Foster kid is a better punter, and that is UK’s need right now. ZBV is more of a kick-off and FG specialist. Punting, he is good, but if you look at his performances over the past 2 years at the Ray Guy camps (, several people consistently outperformed him in punting.

    #20 & #22 – Damnit, why can’t they just have a kickoff? I’d pay $5 to watch.

And if after the kickoff it was a stalemate, then they could just kick each other until only one is still standing.

I think a punter and kicker are needed individualy. The importance of the kicking game CANNOT be overstated. No returns and opposing teams starting on the 20 are a must.

@18 Monte wanted to come to UK so bad, all he wanted was a scholarship. And they wouldn’t budge even though they needed one so he just turned to western because he could be semi close to home where he had a sick family member. He went to Western and redshirted his first year, then his second year he got a hip injury because of their crappy field. And last year when he was in I dont think he missed a single FG, and he hit a good few from around the 50 if Im right. And he set all kinds of state records while he was at Bell Co. No reason not to sign him. Hopefully UK doesn’t screw up that bad in the future.

I don’t even see Foster listed in the top 100 of the “Pro Kicker” site.
