Cleveland can finally call itself a championship town after Anamika Veeramani won the 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee, and along with prize money, has been offered a job as a proof reader here at KSR. Veeramani, who many predicted would grow up to be a great speller after she correctly spelled her last name at three months old, won on the word ‘Stromuhr,’ which I am told is a real word, and not something Fake Gimel made up for his D&D games. Veeramani used her 15 minutes to plead with Lebron to stay in Cleveland, but remained silent when questioned about the rumors that she is a packaged deal to New York with Bill Endres, Professor of English from the University of Kentucky.
Onto Sunday’s news:
-The biggest UK related news yesterday was the absence of a Kentucky connection in the following story. The Chicago Bulls made a hire, choosing to pick Tom Thibodeau from the Boston Celtics to become their new head coach. Most notable, Thibodeau is not John Calipari, and that means the rumor chasers are back to predicting John will be coaching in Cleveland next year.
-Speaking of Calipari, while he is currently taking time to deal with family affairs, he is also making time to help “The Draft Cats” prep for what could be the schools biggest draft class in history. David Scott had a nice wrap up on Coach Cal’s website, but suffice it to say, these kids love their coach, and our coach loves them. No matter what the media tries to say about Coach Cal, he has proven to be a winner on and off the court.
-In an accident that seems more appropriate of a blogger than a college football star, Derrick Locke broke his arm on a moped a couple days ago. Still, Locke apparently is doing well, and the coaches don’t expect the injury to be a lasting one. It seems as though every other month Derrick Locke injures himself, but fortunately this one appears to be minor, and hopefully no more will follow.
-A podcast was taped last night in the Casa Del Jones and it should be a good one featuring the always loathed BTI. I was stuck in Lexington running the show for you all, so I couldn’t make the trip, but hopefully he followed in my footsteps of not speaking into the mic and interjecting with a joke once every 5 minutes. I’m expecting he trash talks Kate non-stop. Keep the tradition alive, BTI. We should have it up sometime today.
-Rajon Rondo, now a hundred dollars re-richer, preps tonight for game two against the LA Lakers. Let’s just hope Doc Rivers can find the real Boston Celtics somewhere hidden in the Staples Center, too.
Drew will be bringing you the rest of the news today, assuming he didn’t end up in an altercation with Steve Masiello, which if I know Drew is a long shot. Odds are he tries to sell Steve a ticket to next years Louisville beat down. Make us proud Drew.
Happy Sunday everyone.
