Well apparently the night of call-in shows produced two reactions from exasperated coaches. Mike Davis took the time on his call-in show to basically say “I am leaving and it was nice knowing you.” He mentioned that Indiana would be better off with one of “its own guys” in there and that it may be the end of his time in the state. I actually like Davis and think he was in an unwinnable situation with very little support. His run to the finals was impressive, but while he recruited well, he was never able to win the big games. Plus he lost Sean May to UNC, which was a big deal.
Tubby Smith also sounded put out on his coaches’ show but it was more with the state of the team. He sounded like a man who has tried all he knows to try and it still hasnt worked. I feel sorry for the guy and it is clear that he really is at his wits end. I dont really believe that this season will get better, but I wonder what is in Smith’s head. Is he trying to figure out who he can get to come in to help the team? Who he believes need to go? does he think he needs to go and try something else? It really is perplexing and will be interesting to see.
And the Olympics are still going on. Thankfully today began curling, which I love. We beat the World champion Norwegians but then lost to the stupid Finnish. The United States is ready for curling gold now, so we have to step up our act. If you havent watched it recently, you really should try as it is a very peaceful sport. Sort of like golf, but without the walking.
