Amile Jefferson just announced that he’ll be taking his talents to Krzyzewskiville to play for the Duke Blue Devils. No word on whether or not he plans to change his last name to Plumlee.

Honestly very happy about him going to Duke. Harrell is the type of PF we need for next year. Big, strong, able to bang down low. plus he is very raw, which means he will stay awhile.. at least 3 years I’m assuming…. Bring him out. #BBN

No worries. If this “Flopping” crackdown that’s about to occur in the NBA trickles down to the college level, Duke will have to terminate their basketball program within 3 years anyways.

To all those screaming ‘sour grapes’ b/c ppl are looking to Harrell, have you paid any attention to the comments here? Sure we were all watching to see what he would do b/c UK was involved, but if you look at the play styles, Harrell is a better fit.
Add to that the fact that Nerlens is tweeting Montrezl, not Amile. UK was a longshot AT BEST. The only reason we were mentioned as an option is because it’s UK and Calipari has a way with recruits. But when you look at the facts of Nerlens tweeting Harrell and Amile’s dad not even coming to the UK visit, the writing was on the wall…it isn’t sour grapes.

Actually Duke needed this guy more than we do. I wish him well and he will be able to be the man at Duke. We simply cannot expect (as much as I wanted to see him at UK)to get all the five star players. My guess is that Cal is not done yet………

I think its funny how Duke fans have come over here to gloat. As if managing to hang on to a recruit you’ve been all over for years after Kentucky becomes interested in the week or two leading up to his decision is some kind of big victory. Its like admitting that you thought there was a legit possibility Amile Jefferson would have chosen UK despite our extremely late arrival in his recruitment, because UK is so obviously a better destination for top high school talent.
The SECOND that Harrell chooses someone other than UK, the entire BBN will call him “soft and overrated.” Grow up, kids.

40) Jefferson wasn’t a 5-star recruit, and Cal is done, except perhaps the addition of another transfer (Montrezl possibly) because there simply isn’t anyone else left in this class worth recruiting. It’s not horrible though. I think they’ll be fine either way. This year’s only going to get them to 2013 gracefully anyway.

64) Duke and UK both have legacy. Duke has the better and more accomplished coach (See: 4 NT’s and a Gold Medal, almost 2). But we offer academics. Calipari doesn’t even bother selling his recruits on academics. Duke is in a different stratosphere than UK when it comes to academics…

I agree with many. This isn’t that big of a deal. Yes, we would have taken him and he is a good 4 star that could have added depth. But we will be fine and we have all the significant holes filled. Remember, Cal doesn’t play that many guys anyway.
And if Harrell cant get out of his LOI and/or wont be eligible for 2012-13, all UK fans will rip him to shreds and say they didn’t want him. Typical.

Not sure why our fans try to place the term backup or even try to claim to know who our top priorities are with recruits. Only the coaches and players really know what is going on.
Setting ourselves up to feel great if they pick us or look stupid if they dont. Not so much this one as no one really expected to get or were really enamored with Amile Jefferson based on internet reports (and the derby festival attendance) but with Anthony Bennett, Lyons etc..
IMO if we would all trust in our coaches, get excited when we hear about a potential recruit(s), but stop trying to label certain kids as top priority, or will be a back up at a certain position.
Lose out on a so called Top Priority and look bad.. Especially when you turn right around and label a new guy the top priority.
I know this wont help, there will still be dumb twitter people, there will still be labelers of Backups, top prioroties, etc… But maybe, just maybe someone will read this and it make some sense.

Most any other team out there would love to have Wiltjer on their team as a starter. He will be stronger and more experienced this year. A strong bruiser to share minutes in that spot would be great, but it is not like we are fielding a team with 4 players.

Plus, the 3-star transfer gives us more experience that we desperately needed. I’m sure UK is perfectly okay with taking a 3-star recruit to go along with the 3 5-star recruits we already have and a 4-star recruit. I don’t know how we are going to manage.

I think the best situation based on the above statement would have been Ohio State…do not think he would have been happy at UK… skill level was there, but wrong kind of personality to help this team be successful…
