For Kevin Durant, this was his first gold. Headlining the roster that featured no returning players from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Durantula did everything asked of him and more, including bringing home the gold medal. He poured in 28 points in the finals against Turkey (who was playing a rare home game,) and brought the gold back to the United States, the first time we have won it in 16 years.
While it’s fun to hate and poke fun at Coach K on here, he and Jerry Colangelo (and everyone else involved,) have really done a great job turning the culture of USA basketball around. I’m a huge fan of the Olympics, so I remember watching us lose to terrible teams with players that didn’t seem to give a crap, much less two. So it’s great to see the worlds best playing with pride for the worlds best. I can’t wait to see the lineup for 2012.
Now while you guys are over there, think you could bring some payroll documents with you?
