Alex Poythress’ Late Night News and Views

alex-twavi

Alex Poythress is ready to answer the critics this season. After a year of disappoints in his freshman year individually and as a team, Poythress chose another year at Kentucky over an assured first round draft selection for a variety of reasons. With a summer of battling a possible first overall pick under his belt, Poythress knows what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and will be a massive part of Calipari’s loaded squad this year. Even though he had rough patches throughout last season, the talent and explosiveness was always evident in the 6’8″ forward. Poythress showed his ability immediately last season with several phenomenal dunks against a strong Duke team last season. If Alex manages to translate his moments of brilliance into consistent production, a breakout year and a hefty NBA contract await the former McDonalds All-American.

The Tennessee native turns 20 today, which means he had plenty of delicious brownies from Mrs. Calipari to enjoy. Happy Birthday Alex!

On to the news and views…

– Coach Cal caused quite a stir when he posted a picture on Instagram of him with DeAndre Liggins earlier today. Hopefully Calipari had a long talk with Liggins about the recent events and how to proceed with the future. Liggins is officially on the job hunting market as he was officially waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder today following the arrest earlier this week.

– In better news, Big Blue Nation is fully focused on a huge weekend in Kentucky sports starting with the noon kickoff for the Cats against Miami of Ohio. The first home game under Stoops will be a special moment hopefully with a large crowd to cheer on the Cats in the home opener. The biggest storyline will likely be the performance of Max Smith as the new starting QB. Will Max Smith be able to unleash the Air Raid offense better than Whitlow? Which wide receiver will benefit from an increased passing attack? We all find out tomorrow at Commonwealth.

– Football will not be the only storyline this weekend in Kentucky sports. Lexington will be filled with returning basketball players for the Alumni Game and Calipari’s Fantasy Camp. Many Kentucky greats will be in Lexington to play in the Alumni Game which is raising huge amounts for charity. The total amount is still unknown, but it will be a proud moment for the University of Kentucky no matter what.

– Aside from the Fantasy Camp and the Alumni Game, Calipari has his hands full with three huge recruits that will be in town at different points this weekend for the Alumni Game. Tyler Ulis, Jahlil Okafor, and Devin Booker are all making their official visits to Kentucky this weekend. If you want the full rundown on their visits as well as other recruiting tidbits, check out my post here.

That’s all for now. Let’s get ready for a great victory in Commonwealth.

Go Cats. Attack Every Day.

I do not want to see Terrance Jones this weekend. Kicking a sleeping homeless person is mean spirited, cruel and sociopthic behavior.

I would make a honest comment on the Liggins situation but KSR doesn’t allow such NOW. Either you embrace the thuggery because Liggins is a former UK alum, or you’re a hater. Simple as that. I personally at this point can’t wait for the probation to come, the earlier the better. I’m tired of these thugs representing the University and State. The sooner Cal leaves to the NBA the better.

4… Dude, you’re a fuggin moron. I didn’t realize they already reached a verdict. I guess all dumbasses like you see everyone as guilty until proven innocent. Liggins may or may not have done what was written about him, but everyone deserves a fair trail before people proclaim his guilt. You sir are a fuggin moron and probably a worse human being than liggins… Ps… Never trust a hoe… Oooooo they be lyin

Huge UK Sports weekend. Excited about going to the football game. But football and basketball were not the only UK sports events this weekend. The ranked volleyball team plays this weekend winning last night and will play again today and also the UK women’s soccer team beat Louisville last night 2-0. Any win against Louisville in any sport should make UK fans smile!

Until you’ve walked in the shoes of some of these young men I’d hold off on the judgment. At some point they have to grow up but if there was ever a kid that needs Cal it’s probably DeAndre. Don’t think anyone would trade childhoods with this kid. Proud that we have a coach that remains committed to these young men even after they can’t add wins to his resume.

Culver is most likley a UL troll and prays every night that Cal leaves UK. He is just trying to create a controversy. And if not, he is a dumbass. Because Cal has nothing to do with Liggins. He was a Billy Clyde recruit.

I agree with #3 and #4, I also do not want to see Terrance Jones or Deandre Liggins at the Alumni game. They honestly should not be allowed in Rupp, period. Hitting homeless people and women is about as low as it gets. I also dont like the fact that Boogie will not be playing, despite being a BBN fan favorite and Im sure lots of people spent money on tickets thinking they would see him. All in all a disappointing start to Alumni weekend, I do not agree with how Cal is running this thing. Not being a hater just expressing my thoughts

@Jordan Expressing your thoughts is being a “hater” these days. Trying to call someone’s bullshish only gets you called a hater.

God bless you coach Cal!!! A person should never – EVER – abandon their kids. No matter what. If your child becomes a serial killer, you need to go see them in prison, write and call, and never break that parental bond. David Berkowitz (son of Sam) is proof that even the worst of the worst can get saved, change, turn their life around. Cal is being a TRUE father figure to Liggins. This speaks VOLUMES to prospective recruits PARENTS, who are trying to figure out who they want to entrust their greatest possessions to. You should never forsake your kids, no matter what they do. You tell them they are wrong, you tell them the truth, but you should never forsake them.
