Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Alex Oriakhi talked to Noel, ready to talk to Cal

Alex Oriakhi said on the radio today that he has talked to Nerlens Noel about the possibility of playing together at Kentucky next season. If the two Tilton products really plan to team up, it’ll have to be at Kentucky because the other two schools Nerlens is considering, Syracuse and Georgetown, are Big East schools.

The former UConn big man and his family will host Coach Cal tonight for an in-home visit. He has previously spoken to Orlando Antigua, but he said this is the first time he’ll get to talk to Calipari.

Oriakhi also said he wants to go to a school that needs a big man, so unless he’s worried about Willie Cauley stealing minutes, Kentucky could be a very likely possibility.

We’ll have more on Oriakhi later on…

QUESTION about championship shirts: Those that bought Nike shirts from fanoutfitters – Are the shirts a little longer than normal shirts? I bought a nike about a year ago and the L was significantly longer than usual so I’m thinking of going medium.

    Anyone know? Thanks.

Drew, does that still apply since he is waived the sit out rule due to the infractions? Part of the rule waived, but not all of it? I’d think the entire rule would be waived, but haven’t snooped through the language.

Since the only 3 schools Noel is considering is UK, SU, and Gtown the only way that Oriakhi could play with Noel is if they both came to UK, because Oriakhi can’t play in the Big East.

    36. I suspect Sandy Bell has vetted this well and has given Coach Cal the thumbs up to make the visit. Sandy runs a tight eligibility ship. My concern is with several statements Oriakhi has made like the fact that he wants at least 30 minutes etc. Everything I hear Cal say is that isn’t how he operates. Is Oriakhi willing or able to exhibit an attitude like Darius Miller did in his senior year. That is, team first, personal accomplishments secondary. We’ll see.

Here is the SEC bylaw on one-year transfers: 14.1.15 Two-Year Eligibility. A student-athlete who, upon enrollment at the certifying institution, has less than two years of eligibility remaining, is not eligible for financial aid, practice or competition at the member institution. A member institution may request a waiver from the Conference office for academic reasons or for an individual transferring from an
institution discontinuing a sport. [Adopted 6/3/93; effective for those student-athletes matriculating to the certifying
    institution subsequent to August 1, 1994; Revised 6/3/05; Revised 6/2/06; Revised 6/1/07]

If we get Oriakhi we will not get Shabazz or Bennett. Noel in my opinion is a lock but we will only get one of the previous three. Why would anyone call Polson the “Waterboy?” Polson would be in a teams rotation at ALOT of schools. Because he is smart and a homegrown KY kid he chose UK over other schools. He is better than “the bullet” at UL and the bullet gets minutes there. If “the bullet” were at UK he’d never see the floor either. How easy you guys forget that Polson played some good minutes last year. At SC last year he was the second guy off the bench and he made some BIG plays to end the half.
All I am saying is, there is no reason to bash any of our guys. The guys at the end of the bench could play elsewhere. They were just smart enough to come here and win a ring. He has a very high GPA and is at UK to get an education unlike the non “Waterboys” who are going on to the NBA.

I believe that there is an SEC provision that allows Oriakhi to transfer into an SEC school as a Senior, if he pursues a course of study not offered by the institution he is leaving…of course, it seems that by now, he would have found a course of study…but perhaps, like most young people, can change his mind and find something at UK not offered at UConn to get him into blue…
