Alabama adds another DT…good news for UK and Matt Elam?

No, this is not Alabama Sports Radio. But, the fact that Alabama pulled in another defensive tackle commitment for the 2014 class, Johnny Dwight, last night does concern the Cats. Why? Because the Crimson Tide is also pursuing Matt Elam, the John Hardin giant. Alabama now has two 3-star DT commitments for the class with Dwight and OJ Smith, and is still pursuing 4-star Elisha Shaw.

It’s clear that Saban wants Elam, who recently wrapped up a successful visit in Tuscaloosa. He’s told him that he’s the best nose tackle in the nation, but Elam has also said that he’s going to wait until January to announce his decision. If Bama keeps adding defensive tackles, will that boost Kentucky’s chances? Don’t forget Ohio State, who offered Elam yesterday. Elam says he’ll go visit the Buckeyes, but has also said that one of his top priorities is playing in the SEC.

Come be a hero, Matt.

Yes, and since Alabama leads the nation in “over-signing” players it does not bode well for any kid to go there and think he will get any pt unless he is ranked in the Top 10 to 15 overall.

In an article in the News-Enterprise (Elizabethtown) this morning Elam expressed a lot of excitement and interest in the offer from Ohio State. He indicated he was a big Urban Meyer fan and talked about how important it was to go to a winning program:

“That’s the type of program I want to go to,” Elam said. “I have been part of a winning program at John Hardin and want to go to a winner. That’s a good fit for me. They have a winning tradition there. They went 12-0 last year and would have probably been in the national championship game had it not been for the trouble.”

Love that he wants to be an SEC player, but maybe everyone of us down south should check out OSU just to see what all this “reading and writing” is about.

Johnny Dwight will play the 5-technique in Bama’s 3-4 while Elam will play NT. I doubt this DT signing will impact Elam’s decision, but if they sign another NT things will be looking up for UK.

Actually they wouldnt have been in the national title game either way bc they weren’t ranked high enough in the BCS with that absolute joke of a schedule. Also, PLEASE stop saying come be a hero. First off, does a disservice to real heros everywhere, second off it shows desperation. To quote seinfeld – “that is played.”

Urban Meyer coaching at osu is going to be an “Urban” legend when they quit playing the cup cake schedule. Elam needs to stay at home….

I actually think OSU being involved could help Kentucky. Its no secret that Saban and Myer hate each other, and that there is a good chance that they will be negatively recruiting each other to get Elam. UK may end up being the no drama, no brainer pick by the end of it all.

  10. Okay, so I just broke my vow about not reading another Elam post until Army game day.

    Starting: “Right now!”

*5 bucks if you get that reference. Okay not really.

Please no more daily updates on a kid that won’t announce for another 6-7 months. Wiggins much?

I wish he wasn’t waiting until January to see us struggle all season long this. The doubt it’ll put in his mind won’t help us at all.

7… Hmmm Please spare us “the disservice to real heros BS” I’m sure hoards of Military, Police, and Firefighters are deeply offended by the statement. No disrespect was intended or conceived by anyone other than yourself; so pull those panties out your butt crack and find something worthwhile to bitch about…

    7) You must watch Fox News. Please stop trying to create controversey where there is none. Just because you call someone a hero, does not mean you’re doing a disservice to the military. There are other heros out there besides the armed forces.

Hey idiots and trolls, please quit calling the kid names and criticizing him. It’s great he’s interested in OSU, Alabama, and KY. That’s good company for the Cats to be in when it comes to football recruiting! If he wants to win a national championship, UK loses this battle. If he wants to stay home, be a BMOC, and play in front of friends and family, he will come to UK.

I’m just glad we’ve got kids seriously considering UK vs these top programs. No way this happened the last 3 years. We’re going to get our share.

Really doubt that Alabama signing a couple 3 star players is gonna have any affect on Elam’s decision. You ever watch an Alabama or LSU game where they talk about the reason those 2 schools are so great, especially defensively? It’s because of the depth they have up front on defense. It’s nice to get your 4 and 5 star recruits a little rest from time to time by using 3 star players to fill their role. Not a bad problem to have considering we think it’s awesome to get a 3 star player. Shows you the huge difference between programs right now.

20, the first comment by ridge really counters your point to be honest.

I hope the kid stays home and signs with us.

  22. 10, it’s a reference to when Kramer vowed to stop talking. 🙂
