A Voice Says Shabazz to UCLA

The Shabazz world keeps on turning, this time from a voice of another 2012 recruit’s father. Kyle Anderson’s father says he thinks Shabazz Muhammad will go to UCLA. Why do you care what Kyle Anderson’s father says? Well Anderson’s son is committed to go to UCLA (he is a baller…maybe my favorite non-UK recruit in the class) and his son and Shabazz are good friends. Is his word definitive as to Shabazz’s likely destination? No. But it is yet another piece of relatively good news for the Bruins in the recruitment of the #2 player in the 2012 class.

Why does anyone want to go to that mess of a program with a coach who is one more problem away from being an ESPN analyst?

The choice is pretty clear. You either want to come to a program in the national spotlight with a coach who’s going to encourage you to be great or go to a program in the shadows where you are free to do anything your immature mind can dream while your coach allows you to waste away in mediocrity.

Yeah, because players are really clamoring to go to a program that’s in ruins that even its coach has given up on.

Drama, drama, drama! It doesn’t matter if he pick UCLA people. It WILL matter if he picks UK. My point is that he’s and impact player. But, if he’s playing at a school that can’t get their act together what does it matter. Does anyone see him being a threat come tournament time next year if he plays at UCLA? No? I don’t think so either.

So stop worrying about it. Cal will make it work with or without him. Go Cats! Number 8 inbound this year.

easy now.Cal can’t get them all even though it looks that way.UCLA is probably one of the only teams close to us historically. It’s not like the other choice is Typo Tech.We should no ourselves just because SI writes a story means it’s all true and not overblown.I just don’t want any bad karma.

Hopefully we land Noel and another if Shabazz chooses to not be on tv and exit the tourney in the round of 32 next year. Howland should’ve been fired this year, but UCLA didn’t want him to miss out on a chance to underachieve with another All Star class of talent.

Devonta Pollard would be a great get for the Cats if he is a target still. Check out his “diary” on you-tube. It was a 3-part series done by the local TV news team in his home town. A great kid and a real versatile talent. Not saying Shabazz isn’t as well, but Pollard would be a great fit IMHO…

Me personally, I don’t want him. As soon as I heard about these reports coming out, I immediately said no. We have too much of a good thing to ruin it at UK and for Shabazz to come in with baggage on him is no bueno. Let him go to UCLA and waste away. Not seeing a crime there. It’s his decision, not ours. I want that flat top feller anyway. But for now let’s worry about getting #8.

It became obvious that he would sign with UCLA after that very embarrassing Yahoo! Sports article was published. Shabazz’s father publicly made excuses for Ben Howland and rationalized /justified some of his behavior. For me, the writing was on the wall at that point.

If he is going to commit to UCLA, I don’t understand why he is waiting for April 10th. UCLA obviously has no players leaving early. I would say let it play it self out. Gilchrist might come back, maybe he is waiting on Gilchrist decision, maybe we get Pollard. As long as Calipari is here, we will always have great players at UK. Maybe we will not get the super studs that are ready for the NBA out of high school, but Cal is not going to get 5 of those every year.

  37. gcat4496

#34. Knicks job might look attractive, but he would have a major talent deficiency there and would lose and be fired within a few years. If he goes NBA, he had better wait for Miami or Chicago. Phil Jackson is no dummy. He only coached great teams in the NBA. Great college coaches that tried to rebuild NBA teams get fired about 100% of the time.

Why would Coach Cal want to try the NBA again? I’m sure he is having the time of his life right now. He is a true Kentucky hero, loved by millions. When he was coaching in New Jersey, it had to be one of the worse times of his life. In college, he can go out and recruit the players he wants. In the pros, he has to take the players they have and the players the GM decides he needs. Its a totally different animal.

Let UCLA have him. In terms of building a program after this yr’s high turnover rate to the NBA we might be better served with Pollard, Noel, and Bennett. That with what we already have coming and Wiltjer, Harrow, and hopefully one of either MKG or Lamb. I’d be ecstatic.
Like others have said any chance of sanctions or baggage keep away. UK is big and better than any one single player. Besides 2013 will be a HUGE recruiting class!!!

I have benn saying this for a while. Bazz is going to Ucla. Tony Parker and Kyle Anderson are going with him. Is it the right choice? Who’s to say.

The only way he doesn’t go to UCLA is if he or his father has an awkward moment with Howland on his official.

I think it’s funny that no one, and I mean no one is talking about Bennett. I think it was very coincidental that the night Noel cal was on a jet to Las Vegas. Not to just see Bazz, but to make a push to both him and more importantly Bennett.

Pollard and Bennett have both had the quietest top 10 player late recruitments that I have witnessed.
It might be grades. Who knows.

I also find it odd that cal was just in Nerlens living room a few hours ago. Making a big push, on the day Anthony Davis wins another POY award. KSR is not blowing this up??? In a week During a pre sweet sixteen matchup no less.

Bazz is the fudge, Bennett is the ice cream, and nerlens is the cherry on top. Benett and Noel are MUST GETS. In cal I trust. SEE YA LATER BAZZ GOOD LUCK.

There are a lot of kids who head to college sure that they are one and done players.
Those who want to work hard and improve go to the UKs and the UNCs. Those that want to coast for a year, then turn pro head someplace like UCLA. Some of them will still be drafted high, but many will flame out early in the League because they just don’t have the work ethic to make it…in anything in life.

He’s deciding on April 9th or 10th, a week after the Final Four and National Championship. With a decision coming that soon after the NC you would assume he wants to see who is staying at Kentucky and who is leaving. Also, if he wants to commit two days after his final visit, that tells me he already has decided on a school (whether it’s UK or not) and wants to take his final visit to make absolutely sure. But don’t worry, IN CAL WE TRUST.

UCLA is a train wreck. Uf Shabazz goes there it would be the biggest mistake of his young life. UCLA games won’t even be seen by two-thirds of the country. What is the appeal? Better rave parties? Anderson knows what a mistake his son made and now wants company in his misery.

Its funny for those bashing UCLA and Howland and pathetic for those calling Bazz an idiot should he choose to attend UCLA. First off, you realize you’re calling an 18 yr kid an idiot right? Secondly, While Howland may be on the hotseat, what he’s done shouldn’t be dismissed. Who was Westbrook before coming to UCLA? No one. Who did he become after playing under Howland for 2 years? A lottery pick and NBA All star. Howland’s style may not be the most attractive or flashy but guess what…NBA runs on the half court offense and on playing some sort of defense. Cal hasn’t truly developed any one as his players are ones who would have skipped college had they been able to. With the exception of Rose who has he produced? Next thing, Bashing UCLA itself? Really? Elite University, prime location, and oh yea…Summer pick up games with the likes of Durant, Melo, Westbrook, Kobe….whoever those guys are
