A Quick Late Night Hello

I just arrived back in the Bluegrass, fresh off the longest continuous amount of time I have ever gone without posting on this blog. The boys seem to have done a great job filling in and since my internet is down and I only have my Blackberry, four quick thoughts on the last four days:

1. Calipari’s comments were very interesting today for a couple of reasons. First, he acknowledged that UK would miss Jodie Meeks, but singled out Darius Miller as a player who can step up and fill the void. Talk to the UK folks privately and they will tell you that they think the team can be great IF Darius is great. As Miller goes, so may go the team. Second, he made clear that there could be another roster casualty, but gave no names as to who…a development that is worth watching over the next couple of weeks.

2. Calipari also talked about the Freshmen being “like brothers”, and from what I am hearing, that isn’t just coachspeak. John Wall and Demarcus Cousins are everywhere with each other and all signs point to their becoming the most popular kids on campus. The latest pickup game report I received (which we will go into more detail about tomorrow) suggests that Wall and Eric Bledsoe are having epic matchups on the practice court. If all can keep their attitudes in check, the fans will love this class like none other.

3. Meanwhile Patrick Patterson and Daniel Orton are still getting it done with Hells Trainer in San Francisco. Patrick has told friends that the workouts are hard, but rewarding and if the success of Blake Griffin is any indication, we should see two physical specimens when they return.

4. Finally the most interesting comments of the day came from Matt “Beast” Pilgrim, who suggested that he believes his hype as much as any message board poster. His comment that Calipari told him that he would sit the bench at UK but was an NBA caliber player don’t jive with what we have heard from UK folks, but show a supreme amount of confidence. He also said he wants a “piece of UK” next year, a result I hope comes about. Six points a game at Hampton versus a potential first team All American and a Freshman future lottery pick…I like our chances.

We will have more all day…some pickup reports and my take on UK’s response to Clyde’s lawsuit. Its good to be back…
