Basketball is back in the Bluegrass, baby. Glory! UK opened up the season with their best player, Patrick Patterson, doing everything. Patterson scored on drives, with put-backs from offensive rebounds, and he extended the Wildcat’s three point streak to 712 games with his first career trey. P-Pat notched 14 points on 6 for 8 shooting and 5 rebounds in the first half alone. Jimmy Dykes said it best, “Good things happen when Patrick Patterson touches the ball.” Indeed.
The Eagles didn’t make it easy, though. Late in the first half, MSU cut UK’s lead to 5 with a 9-0 run and displayed a healthy amount of alligator blood. Just hanging around. If you had 3:13 in the pool as the time the announcers would bring up VMI and Gardner-Webb, you win.
Ultimately, UK’s speed, size, and depth sent the Eagles packing, though. Bledsoe eliminated any hope of a Morehead comeback with one of the sickest circus shots in recent memory. UK wins 75-59
