A New Student Orientation Speech for the Ages

All I can say about this is…it’s awesome. At the new student orientation at Georgia Tech, a class of 2015 student gave a speech to try and motivate the class. What happened next is…well it is epic. He yells, he screams, he plays theme music and we see the new students wearing goofy hats. A video for the ages…

You all making fun of him either didn’t finish the video or you lack perspective. The dude starts out overly enthusiastic about an orientation speech. So the first through everyone’s mind is “is this kid an uber-nerd or is does he realize the absurdity he is creating?”. One minute into the video I still wasn’t sure. But then he drops the “like a badass” line, and you realize this dude realizes it’s all a joke. He doesn’t really take himself that seriously, and he knows he’s creating internet meme fodder for the next 6 months.

So the lesson is #9 got it right. Even if #6 gets out of McDonalds, he still won’t work at an engineering firm for this dude. Unless he’s pushing a broom.

What is with all this nerd talk? I would rather listen to that speech than some old drivel and boring crap that you would usually see at an event like that.

Ahh. Asians and RAT caps. I went to GT and I can tell you that those are two things you will only see on the first day. Everyone throws out the RAT caps (Recently Acquired Techie in case you wondered) and the Asians retreat to the dorms never to be seen again until they emerge with 3 advanced degrees. You know they are around, though, because their food stinks up the place something awful.
