A Look at KenPom Predictions

murray450

So, I spent the day clicking around KenPom and seeing what he projected for Kentucky. Right now, the Cats are projected to go 12-6 in conference play, finishing second behind Texas A&M.

On top of that, UK is projected to beat Auburn 81-72 this week. So, where do the losses come happen? KenPom says Kentucky will suffer all those losses on the road to Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Vandy and Florida. Sounds a little bit like the 2012-13 team, no?

Jamal Murray is currently the only Kentucky member on the KenPom All-SEC team, joining Ben Simmons, Stefan Moody, Moses Kingsley and Wade Baldwin. Those are just the five players that are grading the highest right now per his algorithm. If you have a subscription to KenPom, you can find the stats here.

You could also say it sounds like the 2011 team that lost I believe 6 conference road games.

Yeah, this team is a lot like that team than the 12-13 squad.

Yeah, much more like the 2011 team that was 10-6 in conference but only 2-6 on the road. I’ll take it though if they get us to another Final Four like Knight and the guys did.

This is not turning out to be a great team due to a lack of inside presence much like the 2013 team without Nerlins, but we did not have great guard play…..Archie Goodwin and Uncle Julius Mays. This team also lacks a dominant inside presence, but the guard play is pretty good. I think the guard play will get us into the NCAA tournament unless something happens to Ulis where 2013’s could not make the tournament.

That team wasn’t great WITH Noel. They were 19-6 which isn’t horrible but it wouldn’t surprise me to see this team at 19-6 at the 25 game mark. The odds of beating Kansas are slim. At South Carolina game is far from guaranteed, could easily lose at Arkansas, I expect a loss at Vandy,

KenPom is obviously stupid. Tn, Fl & Sc are garbage. We’ll drop one in Nashville & probably a few more BUT still take the sec.

LSU is garbage that UF beat, we did not….Tenn killed UF. Not to mention we are not that good either. However if we lose those 6 games as projected it would be impossible to be 12-6 in the SEC, we already have a loss in the SEC so by my math that would be 7 losses.
