A little More on Brad Reese

Late last night, we released the name of Brad Reese, a Juco/Community College player from Florida who the Cats are now considering for the 2008 class. Reese is a strong scorer, 6’6″ who had a good season playing on a team that includes Gabriel Charlie (the high school teammate of AJ Stewart and one time UK recruit who was a part of the infamous game we called at the Marshall County Hoopfest). Having never seen Reese play, I have no info on whether he is any good or not and the question as to whether he may be eligible next season is still very much an open one. However UK is looking at Reese, and some other 2008 options, showing that they are not content to sit back and wait for 2009.

One more word on the story…..a UK website guru has claimed that we “hurt UK’s recruiting chances” by putting this information out first. First of all, our source on this never mentioned anything about any UK being hurt by the story. Matt May of TCP had the story before us, but didnt hold it because it “hurt UK”, but solely because his source asked him to hold it for a few days. Mine didnt….that explains the difference.

Ultimately if one was truly worried about “hurting UK”, they might not post multiple “there is a mystery recruit” posts to get everyone worked up and searching for the person. The role of people who run websites is to give the fans information and to do so in a responsible way. When sources of mine tell me not to say something, I dont…..and I have done that literally hundreds of times. But I let the individual telling the information make that call, not a self-proclaimed website arbiter of all that is in the best interest of the University. As one of the best reporters and nicest men I have known in this state once said to me about another individual, “just because you didnt say it, doesnt make it not have value.”
