A list of players pledging to return

568610_original

The pledges to return keep rolling in from Moon Township, Pennsylvania. According to the reporters on the scene, the following players have said they will return next season:

Ryan Harrow: “I’ll be here next year.”

Alex Poythress on the NBA: “I’m not ready,” “We’ll get it right next year.”

Archie Goodwin: “If any of us said we should leave, we’d all be delusional.”

Willie Cauley-Stein said he wanted to come back, but wasn’t ready to make any concrete decisions without talking to his family first: “I got this empty feeling and I want to fill it. I want a ring before I leave college. …Right now, it’s looking like I’m coming back.”

Whoa.

I will take Archie coming back and even Alex, but harrow? He is not a Cal type player and he would be better off going to a different school. I worry that the pressure is to much for him.

My goodness people….enough with the criticism. Alex and Archie are FRESHMEN. They will be very good players for years to come. Be thankful we will have guys that stick around for 3-4 years. Wiltjer is who he is…a good spot player coming off the bench. WCS was a project who played VERY LITTLE basketball before now. The only one who I definitely see not returning is Harrow. He was clearly over his head at UK.

ALL THE BLAME LIES WITH CAL. He spent waaaay too much time messing around with the Dominican National team last summer instead of doing his job he is paid MILLIONS for. He could have EASILY added a couple of players to the roster at PG and PF to shore up this team. Instead we got only Mays…who was who he is…a good mid-major player not big enough or skilled enough to play at UK.

We will be fine….unless the guys coming in are as overrated as this bunch.

WCS needs another year! The past 5 days have absolutely sucked. At least we have one of the best recruiting classes in the history of basketball coming in next year. I’ll take a disappointing loss in between 2 national championship years. Any other team put there would too.

They are coming back because they do not have a chance to go to the league. They are not talented enough to play against Rondo, Davis, Gilchrist,James and company.
I for one want some Kentucky kids recruited. We never have to worry about heart when a kid cares about the front like he does the back. Example Jarrod Polson. Sign D. Hawkins. Maybe he can become a Darius Miller!

#51 – UK fans have gotten spoiled and want everything now, now, now. You’re right, we’d be crazy not to want good players back, and they’ll be coming back. It’s amazing how people have forgotten the BCG years and just how satisfied we were with mediocrity or poor basketball. That, or most of these comments are from Louisville and IU trolls. Either way… Season’s over, time to get ready for next year. This loss isn’t anywhere as bad as the Gardner-Webb game.

WCS and Goodwin would be assets because they both have the fight in them and seem to want it, they just need some extra work. I’m not sure if Poythress comprehends what he is supposed to do when he gets out of bed in the mornings, let alone what he’s supposed to do on the basketball court. He looks like a character in The Walking Dead half the time. He needs some strong mental work before he’s kept with this team next year. Harrow could stay, but I wouldn’t use a scholarship on him unless it was a Twanny type role. At the end of the day we need to cut the cancers and keep the leaders. An elite 8, Final Four, National Championship in 3 years. Amazing. Barnhart? Got Cal here. Mitchell. Stoops. Had something to do with a successful baseball team, tennis team and several other athletic programs at UK. Next year we are loaded, but remember, they are still Freshman. We need some experience with that talent. 2012 Championship does not happen without Miller, Jones and Lamb. All of you naysayers need to step back, take a breath and find a good hobby.

I’d love to know how many IP addresses are being used for some of these comments. I know we have a lot of fans, but surely every one of these pathetic posts doesn’t represent a different fan… I doubt they do.

We’ve gone through 3 years of guys using UK as a step-stool to the league, and hitting the road after 1 season. Now we have guys that say (albeit emotionally) that they actually want to come back and some of you want to run them off (as if your opinion on the matter really matters). It’s rediculous. We would be absolutely loded next year if these 4 guys stayed and played with the class we have coming in. Harrow is no John Wall, but we would be in great shape with him as a back-up to Harrison 1.

Most players make these type of comments immediately following the last game. Once the emotions calm down, then reality kicks in and the decision may well change. Are any of them ready for pay? No- not one. Except Noel if he recovers well . The question is not are they ready but is some team willing to pay them to find out. I am not a Jimmy Dykes fan but agree with him when he says they will end up in the D League for about 3 years and then it is over. Another question that will impact if they return. Does Cal want them back? We should all know soon. My gut says- WCS and Goodwin declare for the NBA. Harrow transfers by request.

Even if this team is the second five next year, they will go higher in the draft than now. Coach cal said we will no longer be a team without a full complement of players and have enough for 3 teams next year and said 15 players. Expect wiggins and randle next year plus all but Noel and all the remaining players to come back including harrow. They will all improve behind the scenes and with tough practices change accordingly. Today may have been the wake up call like “an arrest of a drug addict” that the bbn needed. I did not expect coach cal to change but this will be great for the future of the program.

Would be interesting to see how much better ap and Goodwin could be with a pg that can break down a d and with other scorer’s on the court. I’m good if they come back so we can press and run more with an actual bench. Good either way. Harrow could be ok playing 8 minutes a game. Young is a better shooter than Goodwin but if you press and run, everyone will get equal minutes and we’ll destroy teams like the 96 team.

1996 team (best inUK history) lived off of depth, top (Delk,McCarty) to bottom (Mercer,Turner). We need a bench and we need some experience. I’ll welcome them all back. Cal will play those deserving. Lets give them a chance as veterans. They were good kids, just not a good team. Go Cats.

Honestly, it’s harsh but Alex and Ryan, need to think about walking on or transferring. Noel’s gone I’d say, Stein is actually really good. Goodwin could become an outstanding player at UK. And kyle’s just in a slump. The only way we should keep harrow and poythress on scholarship is if there’s no one else to give them to. Same goes for hood and Polson if it means making room for 2013 top recruits.

    GUYS LISTEN!
    CALM YOUR ASSES DOWN!
This whole slandering is not what BBN is about. We WELCOME players, help them get better. We don’t give up on our team even if they give up on the game. This season needed to happen. It was bound to happen sometime. Not every program will be great every year. Next year’s group of kids are just like this years group… KIDS! Just calm down. Go to sleep. Everyone understands your emotions but don’t take it out on these kids. Im the same age as them and there is no way in hell i would do what they are doing. The time commitment, the lack of social life, the PRESSURE from the nation and the fans. If yall think you can do better, take a look in the mirror sometime. Stop being so negative. Negativity doesn’t do anyone any good.
Id love to see all these guys come back. Harrow, hood, polson, wiltjer and whoever else. But they have to commit to themselves and the team. Take one another accountable for the actions.
If there is one thing that we have learned this year is that we cant win with freshmen being leaders. We need more vocal upperclassmen. That’s why I want Harrow and Wiltjer to come back. They need to teach these new kids coming in how to play and grow up.
In the meantime, please don’t be so negative. I love these kids. They are already hard on themselves. They don’t need ignorant fans to take verbal dumps on them. PATIENCE PEOPLE

How can everyone be so hateful towards 18-year-old kids??? Sure the struggled this year. But to declare that they all should just leave now is short-sighted and, quite frankly, I sign of clear stupidity. They have talent. We’ve seen it. To have guys like them on the bench making us 9 or 10 deep behind the talent coming in just makes us that much more unbeatable. Sure, they had their problems, but can you HONESTLY say you would rather have Hood seeing minutes off the bench rather than Poythress? Grow up and show some support for these kids. Be a REAL fan or just get out, grow a line beard, and go an hour down the road.

I got bad news for the guys who think they’re coming back… we may not have enough schollies. With 6 signed frosh and possibly 1-2 more on the way that is 7-8 players. We’re only allowed 13 so assuming we have 8 players that leaves 5 spots left for Harrow, Poythress, Wilcher, Goodwin, Cauley Stein, Hood and Polsen. Now Polsen can give up his schollie but we would still be over the limit. My guess is tha Harrow and maybe Wilcher transfer or are told they are not a good fit.

    100) I brought the subject up before the season ever started. Our top five or six players had no one to play against in practice. How can you get better when you’re going up against Brian Long in practice? Or Twany Beckham or Jon Hood or Jarod Polson. These are the players that were guarding Poythress and Goodwin in practice every day.

Our rotation will be ridiculous and by some of these guys coming back, they are signing up for 2 more years. Keep downplaying Poythris all you want, but as a Junior he would be a beast. Archie reminds me a whole lot of Liggins except Liggins didn’t start showing effort until he got suspended by Cal in his 1st season at the helm. Expect Goodwin to improve his jump shot, based on his competition, he will have to and step on defense next year. I like Harrow as long as he has his mind right, which seems to be occasional, which is all he will play, but could make a good Senior contributor after a year where we lose possibly a record number of kids after our second championship in 3 years.

Are we so detached from reality that we don’t realize that there is a lot of talent on this team, they just didn’t mesh and lacked leadership! Combined with the talent and the pure shooters we have coming in next season (with or without Wiggins or Randle,) we will be an extremely dangerous team and more than likely be the front runner for the national title next year. I realize as kentucky fans, we expect more, but why is it that other freshman across the country are given ample time to develop, but ALL Kentucky freshman are expected to be capable of shouldering the weight of the world from the jump! I’m sorry, but we have been VERY fortunate to have as many freshman that have developed incredibly fast over the last several seasons. The truth of the matter is that not all 18 year old kids develop at the rate that most of Cal’s freshman have, as a matter of fact, i would venture to say it is very rare… Bottom line is if, in fact, most of the current roster returns along side the dominate group of freshman we have coming in, we will be an insanely tough team next year. Soooo….. QUIT your whining and please, think before you write a bunch of NONSENSE!!!!!!!!!!! Your making us look bad! On a side note: I really hope to land Randle tomorrow, but if for some reason we don’t, if we are lucky enough to retain the majority of this years group, i would lay a large wager down that says we win it all next year!! WCS should go in my opinion (simply because of where they have him projected) the others could work themselves into the lottery in a year OR 2… Harrow is a good kid who simply can’t handle ALL the pressure. He’ll be fine coming off the bench behind a player (Andrew Harrison) that can handle the pressure. 6 commits. Randle pending. Wiggins? That’s 5 schollies for Harrow, Wiltjer, WCS, Poythress, Goodwin, Noel (.0001% chance), Hood, Hawkins, the walkons, etc.

Someone is not going to be welcome back, I think, after their efforts this year.

    149) The biggest problem this year was the inconsistency of Harrow compared to other Cal point guards, the lack of energy from Poythress (something Jones sometimes lacked), and the lack of hustle from Wiltjer, a returning player. These are problems that seem less likely next year.

Archie, at least, is energetic. His decisionmaking and temper are his problems. He could improve greatly next year. Harrow and Poythress have psychological issues to overcome. Wiltjer has to decide if he wants to work hard, too. WCS has to decide if he wants to take his chances in the draft or come back and fight.

That is all media fed, between the rankings and NBA draft sites that fuels this hatred some of our “fans” have towards the players. It’s not their fault these media outlets project or rank them to be in the NBA. We need these guys to come back for next season and I hate to break your hearts but unless we somehow got Wiggins, Goodwin will be a major factor for next year’s team. He is not that bad for a freshman and has the tools to be great. We really need WCS also because Dakari is too raw right now. WCS is a better option at center with lots of room to grow in a dominant big man at the college level.

Let’s face it, he’s soft… But that cat’s wearing Kentucky blue and I love him for it! Give the guy a chance to spend next year in the weight room and fighting it out every day in practice. He may end up a really good college player, and hopefully a pro some day.
Good luck cats, hope to see you again next year!

166, i like what you said. As far as Polson and Hood, if they are likely to earn their degree in the summer, could they take classes and just be walk-on players? If so, that is the 15 Cal is speaking of…

    Goodbye Polson and Hood….good ridence~!!

@171 How can you say that? Sure, Polson’s not very talented, but he had more fight and heart than any other player on the team because he’s from Kentucky and grew up loving the program. He’s earned his spot. Kentucky needs in-state guys like Hawkins who love the program. You can’t expect to be great every year with a new group of guys coming in on a consistent basis. It was inevitable. I hate to say this, but some guys need to go. Attitudes controlled this team, and that needs to be fixed or they need to get the axe. Quit throwing dudes under the bus and look forward to next year. The quest for nine is an achievable goal for next year.

Wow talk about bad fans. When these guys come back and have a vocal point guard you will eat your words. I hope they come back, so you haters can jump on the Big Blue Bandwagon right befor we get #9 and you all love them.

young players do dumb things, all this has been said, we will have these years when you loose six to the NBA, The thing I hate the most is the lack of effort Cal had to play guys he knew would not give there all! you know who they are WCS gave little effort in this game who knows why, Polsen played hard Archie played hard but was Archie, John Hood gave his best, remember TJ his freshman year and after I.U game where he Quit, he played his best six games in the ncaa last year we won our championship !!

Some of you fans are just flat out bitches. I understand being disappointed but if you think he’s going to bring a group of freshman in every year and win it, you are delusional!
I’d love to have all of those guys back because if they don’t come….we won’t have a chance to win it next year and you all will be bitching again how there is no leadership. Harrow should stay despite ho bad he has played. He just doesn’t need the pressure of starting. the twins are good but overrated. The kid from Michigan is a beast. If Randle comes and these guys return (even if WCS leaves)we should have a chance.

Ill take everyone back with open arms. We will have the deepest bench in America. Hate on Harrow all you want, but he can become good backup pg. Like Cal said, this team lacks competitiveness and will learn to compete or watch the freshman compete. These young men will figure it out very quick.

@167– No Sh*t he has one more year of eligibility moron. Yet he has announced he would be graduating/leaving early. Do you think/read before you type? The kid is gone, he will not be on next years team. Check yourself before you insult others.

Louisville must be laughing their ass off reading this
crap you so called fans are spittin’ out. These are
freshman. Let Cal keep coaching them and see what happens
next year. One reason why our recruits pick us is because
of our fans. I wonder who the dumbass was that told them
that. This is harder to listen to than watching that last
    game.

I think they all need to come back. Harrow too. It will make for a very deep team next year. We have a team of 18 year olds. One more year will help all of them. We have some fans that really need to grow up. More than our young players.
