A few Saturday Quotes and Leftovers

We’ve mulled over plenty of thoughts on Saturday’s Louisville game here on KSR this weekend. Now it’s time to take a closer look at what some of the players and coaches had to say in the post-game commentary:

Neal Brown on the dropped passes:

“Yeah, too many. That was kind of our M.O. in the spring, and that’s what I’m talking about with routine plays. We had drops, we missed routine throws at the quarterback position. Just routine plays. You know, that’s the thing. Everyone thinks you’ve got to make great plays on offense; all you gotta do is make consistent routine plays. And the reason we weren’t productive in the first half is we didn’t make routine plays.”

Brown on the fumble right before halftime:

“Crucial, crucial. I’ve gotta look at it on film. I don’t know whose fault it was. Obviously we had some momentum going there, had an opportunity to go in and tie the game at half.”

(On if he had been mic’d up for that play, what would we have heard): “Not ready for print.”

In addition to Jojo Kemp and Ryan Timmons, Brown spoke about Dyshawn Mobley:

“You know, I think Dyshawn Mobley is another kid that we’re going to give opportunities to. We didn’t today, but we lacked some production at that spot, and he’ll be given some chances also.

Brown on Kemp’s big day:

“Oh, he gave us a big-time spark. The thing he has to do is, and these young guys–that’s the best he’s looked since he’s been here, in any scrimmage, practice, that’s by far the best he’s looked. And he’s got to do that in practice. Now I’ve seen it in a game, so I understand he has that in him, and I’ve got more confidence in him than I ever have.”

D.J. Eliot on the improved defensive performance:

“Every week they’re just starting to figure it out better and execute better.”

Eliot on UK’s secondary:

“We didn’t give up any deep balls. The one catch in the end zone on third and ten, but we had him double covered and he just went up and made a great catch. Besides that, we didn’t give up anything deep.”

0 -13 on third down conversions. Whose fault was that?

Only if our offense improved as much as much as our defense, but it appears young dudes will make bonehead plays on offense. These kids will grow, and will be very good in their upperclassmen years.

The saddest part was it wasn’t “young dudes” ballsing the plays up. Other than our QBs, Sanders, Blue, and George shared the majority of the screws ups and dropped balls. Those are Juniors and Seniors. Something else I noticed was that our O Line could not keep the Louisville ends off of Jalen towards the end of the game. I understand they were probably tired, but still that is no good.

I cannot fault JUCO players for messing up in their 3rd game of the year infront of a massive crowd, you have to compare +60k to only a few thousand that they’re used to. They’ll get it, and they’ll get better.

As for our QB’s, they’re only good enough for us to stay in the game, but not win games against top teams. Unless something happens in these few weeks, there will be no W next to UK for the big games save for UF due to their suspect offense.
