Good morning, ladies and gents. There was a whole lot going on yesterday outside of what was happening on the court and a few things slipped to the side with all of the SEC Tournament action going on. Here are a couple of things definitely worth noting:
– It seems that the win over Ole Miss didn’t seem to do much to turn down the heat Gillispie is receiving lately. In the post-game press conference, he was asked about the responsibility of the UK coach being a figure head, Gillispie said “that wasn’t on the job description”. Mitch Barnhart was later asked the same question and disagreed with Gillispie’s assessment.
– In the “news we probably knew we’d see yesterday”, Patrick Patterson tapped the brakes a little bit on his previous declaration that he would return to UK. Patterson clarified Thursday by saying he’s still planning on returning, but hasn’t completely ruled out an NBA early entry. I think that’s pretty much what we all assumed, even though we didn’t want to believe it.
– Just a couple of quick thoughts on yesterday’s game. Matt and Fake Gimel ran down all of the important stuff already, but one of the things I found extremely encouraging during the game was the energy levelof not only the guys on the court, but also the guys on the bench. Granted, I don’t have the privilege of seeing this team too often, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the emotional 180 that they seemed to have pulled since playing in Gainesville.
Against the Gators, they looked deflated and almost completely terrified that they were going to lose. Everyone on the court seemed to be a step slower and the guys on the bench looked frustrated. Yesterday, they looked like a looser bunch and guys like Harrellson and AJ Stewart were up off the bench the majority of the game screaming and cheering and the guys on the court seemed to have a little bounce in their step. It might not be a huge factor, but it was good to see the change in demeanor. Hopefully it will continue today.
