Long before the dance…
– It’s a Monday afternoon and that means two things: you want to quit your job and the college basketball polls are out. I can help you with both but I’ll stick to the polls on this forum. Kentucky moved up to #2 in both the AP and Coaches polls behind those Jayhawks out in Kansas. Little Brother knocked off former #1 Syracuse in an effort to impress Big Bro on Saturday – and we’re grateful for that – but you still can’t hang out with us. The Orange dropped to #3 while Duke stayed at the #4 spot despite the loss to Grieves Vasquez.
– For the first time in what feels like years, Kentucky was snubbed from the SEC weekly individual awards. Ole Miss’ Chris Warren was named SEC Player of the Week and Alabama’s Tony Mitchell was named SEC Freshman of the Week. Surrendering the honors in the final week of regular season play to boost the esteem of the less fortunate is just another great example of this team’s generosity.
– Not all was lost from the personal awards this week as John Wall and Demarcus Cousins were named to The Sporting News’ College Basketball All-Freshman Team. Memphis’ Kentucky’s Kansas’ Xavier Henry, Georgia Tech’s Derrick Favors, and Derrick Williams of Arizona also made the first-team. John Wall was named Freshman of the Year.
– Dan Werner still isn’t good at basketball.
