A Bad Night of Basketball

Tonight was by far the worst night of NCAA Tournament basketball that I can remember. Four games, all four of which were routs and very little to get excited about at any point. The six teams that have been the best since the beginning of February (UNC, UCLA, Kansas, Louisville, Memphis and Texas) are all still in the tournament and are making roadkill of everything that comes in their path. The other two teams that have made the cut are from second (or third) tier conferences, but are playing more interesting and exciting games than any of the top teams.

In fact, if it were not for Stephen Curry, then tonight would have been a total disaster. But man Stephen is fun to watch. 33 points tonight and he is now averaging 34 a game for the tournament. He was so exciting tonight that even LeBron James got out of his seat to cheer him on. Davidson is playing with such confidence and their second tier guys are doing wonderful, but the story is all about Curry all the time. Not since Chris Jackson have I seen a guy that makes me so confident that every shot he takes will go in. He has so much fun playing the game and every time he has the ball you have to watch. I dont think Davidson has even a puncher’s chance against Kansas….at least on paper. But Curry has been amazing and if he can pull it off on Sunday, it will be one of the great college basketball individual performances of my lifetime.

UNC-Louisville tomorrow night will be special, as the tournament now gets good. Never before can I remember a time when the six best teams have all still been in the tournament at this late of a juncture. Add to that the fact that we have a legitimate shot of four #1 seeds in the Final Four, and this weekend should be great.
