Does Serene Branson pass Brian Collins on worst on-air gaffe?

We have a new contender for worst news blopper ever, this one coming from the Grammy.  By now, many of you have probably seen this video of LA’s Serene Branson and her inability to find a single english word in her report.  Now, just so I can cut people off at the pass, despite reports, Branson DID NOT have a stroke that resulted in her verbal gaffe.  Some doctors have argued she may have suffered a minor brain “episode”, but no doctor in LA has confirmed that.  Plus, they did confirm EMT’s looked at her on the scene, but released her without a hospital visit.

Let’s not forget these 2 gems as well:

C’mon. It’s clear that something went wrong that was not purely nerves.

This would be like calling an on-air punch to a reporter’s face a “gaffe”.

pretty sad to make fun of this young lady. she clearly had some sort of stroke or seizure and you’re going to call it an “on air gaffe” and make fun of it?? Just look at the worry on her face as she realizes something is wrong. You guys make some funny jokes but as someone who knows too much about strokes…this is over the line. Sad day for KSR.

One of the morning shows thinks she might have had a seizure during it. They talked to a lady who had the same thing happen to her and she said it was a seizure and not a stroke.

“Good Lord” has it right, it’s obvious that something physically went wrong there. I highly doubt it was just a matter of “nerves”. She shouldn’t be posted up there next to true gaffes like, not being able to keep up with the teleprompter and apparently being really nervous. Shame on you BTI for this damning article.

Wow, BTI… One more example of why you’re the least popular poster on this site. This is your idea of humor? You’re not funny like TB, Drew, or even the newcomer Not-Jerry Tipton. You’re not smart and insightful like MJ. This is obviously some type of neurological event, possibly a seizure. This isn’t nerves, its obviously aphasia. You’re a sad little man, and I truly hope I never see another article of yours on this awesome website again.

Damn, a lot more doctors in Kentucky then I realized. I love how BTI says that EMT’s released her and nobody in LA says she had a stroke. But Dr. BTISADBAG knows what he is talking about, and it was clearly a stroke because his uncle’s 2nd cousin had a stroke, so he is an expert.

This is the most insensitive sophomoric attempt at humor I have seen on this site and that is saying a lot. There is a very good chance that she has a serious medical problem and to demean her this way is inexcusable. If this is all you got BTI, you ain’t got nothing. Give it up.

I’ve never been so ashamed of KSR as I am right now. Seriously. BTI, please do the right thing and take this down. First and foremost, it’s just wrong to make fun of her. But secondly, it’s only a matter of time before somebody in the national media writes a story about how a UK fan site is making fun of a woman who obviously suffers from some kind of neurological problem.

Last time I checked most EMT’s don’t have the ability to check for neurological problems in full capacity (ie Ct or MRI scans) and most aren’t trained neurologist. So the fact that EMTs cleared her doesn’t really mean a lot. Poor play BTI.

BTI, it appears that she had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) which is exactly what it says… transient… so a “mini stroke” for a lack of better terms. With having one, it is likely she will have a stroke in the future. Risk factors such as smoking are a likely culprit. Unlike a stroke, the TIA does not kill brain tissue; it is defined as a temporary loss of blood to a part of the brain by something like a clot. The area of the brain responsible for the “funny speech” is Brodmann area 39 & 40, known as Wernicke’s area. They know what they are saying, it just doesn’t come out like they intend, as if speaking a foreign language. It would have sounded “correct” in her head. You can view the video by clicking my link.

No problem, BTI. What she had may or may not be a TIA. To call it a TIA, symptoms resolve within 24 hours. Since she didn’t go to the hospital to get blood work to confirm or a CT to rule out an actual stroke, I guess we won’t know. Just because she felt better and said it was nerves, I don’t see a DO or MD after her name to actually know what she had. Even then, still have to diagnostic and confirmatory testing to diagnose. Oh and BTI… you are a douche, FYI. Doctor’s orders. Go Cats! Beat Mississippi State!

Look, I love this site, and I hate BTI too (ha ha), but you really should take this down. I’m a physic therapist, my wife is a speech therapist. We both agreed something happened in that young woman’s brain that was not normal. We have both been witness to acute strokes and the stat nature if intervention that it necessitates. If she didn’t have a stroke, she couldve very easily had a transient ischemic attack. Transient, for all the morons laughing at her, means of short duration with typically non-lasting effects. Compare her to the other 2. The other 2 clearly have word finding issues and awkward pauses but can be understood. She is having an obvious bout of expressive aphasia the cause of which is likely something serious. So go ahead and launch in to me about how I must think I’m a doctor or some other well-thought out attempt at a “sick burn.” To be honest I’m the one hoping he’s wrong, but I’m afraid, for her sake, that I’m not.

Anyone who thinks this is a “gaffe” has some neurological issues of his own, and I don’t mean the transient kind. You don’t have to be a doctor to see what’s happening here; this woman isn’t tripping over a word or even two or three. She’s spewing absolute gibberish for close to ten seconds. Before watching the video of Serene Branson, I’d encountered this sort of sustained incoherence in only one other place: on this website. Unfortunately it’s a daily occurrence on here. What’s the average age on KSR, anyway? Nine? Nobody with any substantial or meaningful life experience could post the kinds of naive, self-absorbed crap that regularly gets posted on this site.
