Some Notes from the Attack on the Chicken Shack

jorts

It is New Year’s Eve and it is time to celebrate. So I will make this quick with a couple of thoughts on a great day:

— If you live in Louisville, then you know how sweet this is. Not only did Kentucky win, but it was clear that UK was BY FAR the better team. Don’t let a UL fan tell you that they lost because Buckles didn’t play or any other nonsense. Buckles would have made A difference, but he would not have made THE difference. UK was far superior on both sides of the court and anyone who says otherwise simply does not want to face reality.

— I cant tell you how happy I am for our man Jorts. Along with Woo and Patterson/Lucas, Jorts is a KSR legend, going back to the infamous day that he wore jean shorts on his recruiting visit to Lexington. I find him to be hilarious and one of the best people we have seen on the team in a long time. To see him have such success this year was great, but then to see him have 23 points and 14 rebounds against the Cards on a game that I simply wanted more than any other in a long time…well that was great. J-O-R-T-S JORTS, JORTS, JORTS

— Josh was great…but Brandon Knight is a star. He controlled the game quietly and absolutely dominated the play. He controlled tempo and outside of the first few minutes, was always playing within himself and ahead of the Cards. Very few can score 25 points (the second most ever by a Freshman in the history of the rivalry) and rarely get mentioned afterwards. But Knight did, which showcases just how good he is and what an absolute force as a team leader he has become.

— Along with Knight, a HUGE kudos to Deandre Liggins. The man is a defensive stud. They put him initially on Peyton Siva and he took the Point Guard out of the game. Then, when Preston Knowles got hot in the second half, Liggins switched over and Preston did not score again. He does all the little things and he does them well. I still dont know if I believe the 67 threes made thing that Calipari said, but I do believe that he is the best on the ball perimeter defender at Kentucky since Gerald Fitch. Liggins deserves a huge part of the credit for this win.

There is much more but it is Friday night and New Years Eve and I am in Louisville after we beat the Cardinals. Celebrate my friends and be safe. It is a great day to be a CAT!

Here is my CBS Article on Jorts and how he became a UK legend in one afternoon.

    61) A lot of guys may get blocks and alter shots, but Liggins has to be in the conversation for defensive player of the year. He started to develop that mindset last year (and we also had Harris and Wall and Bledsoe playing good D on the perimeter), but I haven’t seen or heard of another player out there that gets after it as hard as Liggins.

I don’t think Haywood was coaching the bowl game away, since he is the new coach. Since Davey W. hasn’t said he is officially coaching and implemented a media blackout, no one knows who is coaching. The assistants have not been retained, so it is a mess over there. But Haywood wasn’t coaching anyway, but he just made the AD look like an ass. And Josh, you are the man!

Jorts is the man. So proud and happy for him. He seems like a great person and he’s proven that he’s no after thought. He’s a key player for this team and critical to this team’s chances to do some serious damage in March. And when you play like that against UofLol, you become legendary. Long live JORTS!!

What I wanna hear is the National media to give us respect instead of saying ” Without Kanter they aren’t a Title contender”!! Brandon Knight is the best freshman in the country come March, mark it down!

Harrelson and Jones played the two man game exactly as they should with the defense that was dealt to them. Liggins defense was as good as ever and Miller played very well until fould trouble. However, Brandon Knight is soooo difficult to classify. He is a scoring point guard who understands and executes pace of game in a manner most guys wait till the NBA to learn. Wall was and is great fun to watch (note at last nites Wizard game how many UK tshirts) and I really appreciate him, but Knight seems to almost bring an experienced coachs level to his game performance. He is, academically and on-court performance wise, an exceptional individual.

Any body ready to say that the real difference in this game was coaching? Both in preparation and in-game? The difference was all about Cal getting our guys to do what they needed to do. No one, least of the Vegas odds makers thought it could be done. I am ready to start the Cal for coach of the year campaign now.

    Two great articles Matt.

Any thoughts that Cal 2.0 might have the makings of the second coming of the Unforgettables? I know that is high praise but i’m really starting to get excited about what this team could do come march, they are really starting to play well together and no one outside the BBN expects them to do much – just sayin’ some strong similarities developing, “I really like our team!”

changing channels this morn and there’s the show “courtside with rick pitino” on a louisville station. really….what a joke. anyway just wondering, did any reporter ask ricky p if he was spending time with his family over the holidays or does the louisville ad not allow those type of questions. also wondering if mrs. p has ever or will ever set foot in the chicken bucket. ricky is a coach way past his prime and it’s sad watching him lose relavance…not!!

I thought UL TARDS said Cal can’t coach. UK made adjustments, RICKEY THREE STACKS on the other hand never changed his game plan. Dude, when Jorts slams 5 dunks on your a$$ – defend him.
Kellogg’s best comment ” UK COMES IN THE CUM CENTER AND THEY ARE EATING GOOD”
Rick has now lost 2 in a row to the BIG BLUE, he needs to be put on suicide watch. Would some one please remove sharp objects and coat hangers from the locker room of the Cum center

Some attention needs to be brought to Jennings dirty play at the end of the game on Liggins. He literally tried to pull both of Liggins legs out from under him. I do not believe Inam exaggerating this, watch for yourself. It’s at the end of the clip, see for yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f52QcePkUjE&feature=player_embedded
